I had good help this weekend. Eric , a 13 year old step son stripped my eng comp. by himself. I started a console frame so i would have the right measurements before pulled the rest of the floor out. I think it is going to work pretty well.

I would consider contacting Cigarette and asking them for a price on a new liner. As much damage as there is that would be the surest and easiet way of returning it to "original".
|
That Is Called Serious Surgery!
|
Wow!!
|
You will need a lot of fiberglass !!!
|
Post #53 shows you trying to frame another driver's console. Wouldn't it be easier to buy the complete fiberglass console from Cigarette. I had one of the four F-2 Top Gun race boats that crashed and bought it damaged. It went through a complete resto and Neill at Cigarette was very helpful in selling me the parts to bring it back to original. The driver's (and passenger's) console are one big fiberglass piece out of a mold. They just bolt in. Cigarette might work with you (price wise) if you explain that you're restoring this boat and doing the work yourself. It's certainly worth a call ...

I don't think It's salvagable
|
that boat is dead. & not safe...imo (sorry)

I bought this Donzi 33zf late one night online. My good buddy Murray and I got it back together with many hours of grinding, glassing,Mold making etc. Most would have said it was not repairable. But looking at this project, it was a piece of cake. Hats off to you my friend and good luck. You have great intentions and far more ambition than most. That being said I have to agree with the above posts. Even for an experienced boat builder that would be a very serious undertaking. IMHO :drink:

All it is , is fiberglass and wood.If I remove all of the bad stuff and replace it with new, then it should be SAFE and in great shape. Now stop trying to rain on my parade.I own my top gun and I am enjoying the time I am spending with it. The bottom of this boat is perfect and there is no way I would let it go to the junk pile.:p
|
You can bring it back. Keep up the good work.
|
Thanks Z.P., Thats what I want to hear:drink:

Good Luck, Looking good on the progress. |
Bad Enough,
Who built your building? Was it a kit? I am about to embark on a barn project. |

I give the guy credit for taking on a big project on a limited budget but limitless energy. I think he is going to pull it off. Barry |
Personally i think that the work he is going to do will take a lot of time, but i think that it really could be done.
It will only take time, fiberglass and fiberglass clothes (a lot) and at the end it wll be really a great restoration. I had done a few works on boats on my own and there is nothing that cannot be repaired, unless it is broken bad everywhere. My only doubt in this case would be on how much the fire affected the fiberglass....in the matter of temperature.. But if he takes out all the damaged pieces and cheks the strenght near the damaged places, it can be ok. Go for it and keep us posted ! That's my opinion. |
Keep it up! Show these guys it can be done right. I had my doubts when I saw your first pics. Its now clear to me you have the ability to pull it off.
Very few people could pull off a project like this one. It will be quite an accomplishment. I 'm cheering for ya man! |
Hey Sydwayz, My shop was a 60x60 horse barn. Poles and a roof. I put in a floor 7000.00 , Pro panels and insulation about 3500.00 and a 20x12 insulated door 3200.00 installed. It still isn't finished yet though. My boating habit keeps getting in the way.You should check rural papers and farm mags for good deals on kits.:drink:

Bad Enough,
That is ONE big project, your an inspiration to many of us. The passion that I read in your post will surely payoff in the end product. Keep us posted and keep those pics coming. This project would make a good t.v. series on cable ( Spike or TLC ):evilb: Thumbs up Pal:drink: :drink: :drink: |

If this boat has a Salvage title, and/or has been claimed as a Total loss by an insurance company, It will be almost impossible to insure or finance said boat's HIN ever again. I don't know of any Surveyor willing to sign off on a hull with this amount of fire damage. Not trying to be negative...just being realistic. |
Good points Mark. I guess it depends on how his title reads.
Just wondering aloud here ( ....doh, is that really possible being that we are on the internet ?? :D ), but whats going to happen also when someone goes to try and insure it if its a salvage branded title ? Will it be tough to do ? I would think so, especially if someone is going to want to finance the boat. Would a lender even finance this one also ? Unless he is going to keep this boat FOREVER, I would find some of these things out now.. I do admire the dedication involved on this one thus far. |
i may be wrong but i dont think boats are tracked like vehicles. his title probably doesnt say anything about salvage.
get er done Travis:cool: |
|
I had bought a sunk boat that was salvage and was not written on it unlike cars, and even when I transfered the US Title to a canadian title there where no mention of total loss or salvage boat either...
No problemo! |
