I saw that boat for sale. I was going to ask on here if anyone knew the story on what happened. You got a "smokin' deal" on that boat. I saw the price it was going for. You could come up with some good names....

"Smoked"
"Fire Sale"
"Still Smokin"
"On Fire"
"Hot 1"

:D :D

Congrats on the buy. And yes, post pics of the progress.

By they way, Phils #'s in my signature line.

Good luck with that project. How about "Burn out" or "Toast" or "Torchy's Loung" or " Black Magic Woman" or "Smokin Mama" or "Hot Chocolate" or "Hot Tamale" or "Hot Btch"
for a name?

Re: 38 Top Gun resto

massive burn! I'd call it DIRTY JOB !!!

I restored 2 boats up to now, but never burned like that. Each time you'll work on it, you'll get a black face for sure! Need a shower after!

Good luck, keep postin pics!!!

I thought my restoration was bad! All I had to do is replace a transom and a couple of stringers. Best of luck. My dusty, grinding fiberglass thoughts and prayers are with you!!!

Chugar 11-07-2006 06:48 AM

Re: 38 Top Gun resto

Beer washes down the dust pretty well! I have alot of extra parts from my project. Let me know what you need. I replaced almost everything in the bilge and transom.

Bad Enough, tell us what your plans are and how you're going to repair the burnt fiberglass. How does it look in person? How much you plan on spending? How much are you going to do yourself or outsource. I have an idea of how much you paid for the hull, It may just be worth the work!

The plan is to first restore the boat to original condition. I have done some work with fiberglass repair before but not to this degree. Initially it looked bad but after I got to cleaning and ripping the wet debris out not so bad. I plan on doing the resto myself unless I happen on something I just cant figure out. The time frame is 2 years (I have a day job) and the budget will be about $40,000. So far I have been lucky enough to find guys wanting to trade this for that so, very little cash out so far. You all have been a big help offering up spare parts and that is how I plan to get the job done for now. Later I'll upgrade to higher performance. I paid $3150 plus my cost of hauling the boat from NY to KC. I plan on having a solid top notch boat when it is all done. I really dont want to stray from Cigarette's design. So keep the used parts rolling. We'll get your garages cleaned out before it's all over. Thanks Travis and Carol Self

Can't you just buy a new deck straight out from the Cig factory and be worth it? Have you checkedk that option or is it too expensive? How much could be worth a new deck?

i am curious about those two fires though...looks like electrical fires under the dash...

The Tiger was previously owned by someone here in Toledo and traded into Lipship on a new 39 Gun. It then went to the Bahamas and I think the fire was started by a vagrant while sitting in a storage lot.

Re: 38 Top Gun resto

The Top Gun was tracedto the battery switch. Burned on the lift at the marina and took a Baja with it.

Old parts are being cut out and new material has arrived to start making new parts.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK, That's insane!!

Can't wait to see how it comes out.

O.C.Barry 02-13-2007 05:48 AM

Some 38 parts I have.

If you continue on with the project, I have a few parts left from a 38 from when I restored my '94 TG. I have the rocker switch panel, the cup holder / arm rest parts for the back seat (They look to be made of Star Board from the factory) and three new white Top Gun vinyl pillows for the cabin. I also have some of the hatch hardware and I'm sure there are other things that just aren't coming to mind.

If you're interested, let me know your e-mail address.

Barry
