Not to worry boys, I have a good title. I also have a surveyor that will look at it when i'm done. If I do ever sell it i will include a scrap book of it from start to finish. I'm an honest guy and would not pass it off as orig. cond.:D
|
It looks like a lot of work but if you can pull it off you could have a cool boat. You mentioned you planned to spend 40k to redo boat, did you look at any late 80's TG's that were in running condition. Before embarking on this project since you aren't that far away from buying a running boat? With your skills and ambition you could turn a rough but complete TG into a gem.

Sorry to add my 2 cents and rain on your parade. Excessive heat plus fiberglass equals brittle. Call any credible boat builder they will tell you the same.
If you have a surveyor willing to stand behind this and sign off on it great. Have him come to photo and document throughout the whole project. All the best |
That looks like more than $40K but sounds like you have it planned out....Good Luck, post progress pic.

I have a loaner boat. I also have some of the coolest friends in the world. A special thanks to Captn Redneck Johnny in Norfolk,Va for letting me come and pick up his 94 top gun and bring it home to mo.. Now I can make molds of all the pieces I need for my project. I will be installing new standoff boxes on CIGNIFICANT OTHER and an engine when it is ready. We will be attending the shootout in it.Also a thanks to my bro Billy Fitchett of Va Beach for helping me replace all of the wheel bearings in a snow storm on Sat. morning.:evilb:

That's a good looking old cig. |
My new favorite thread!
OK, I get it. I can see your vision. A cig for $3100 + $40k to put her back together. But man, you must have some kind-of talent. I almost want to fly there and see this with my own eyes! Lots of cig owners offering parts and advice. Very cool!Awesome community, the cig guys. Looking forward to more posts! |

Cig fire restoration project
Just my 2 cents but who will make the first offer to buy the boat when it is done someday in the future. It's past is not hidden and the usual outcome of a total loss of anything with a motor in it is that the bottom feeders are lookin for a bargin. The exception can be an antique that is irreplacable like a Duisenberg. Older Top Guns without "history" are plentiful and reasonable. The project is a work of love and art in progress and of the most value to the restorer. The experience of doing a project like this with your son at your side is invaluable but probably not a great business venture. The labor value may never be recaptured. That may never matter though, in the end. It is sure fun to watch the progress of the project and I envy and appreciate the talent it takes to "git r done" !!!! After all is said and done, a lot more is usually said than done. This is the exception to that rule. Amazing ambition, hats off to you.:ernaehrung004:

I have to say I have done a few projects of my own and it is inspiring to read this particular forum for the first time and see the vision when many of the responses were negative and tyring to rain hard on you dream.
My friend, The water is near...:ernaehrung004: |
