Revolutions

Alrighty. So it's starting to get cold here and not much is going on at oso, so I though this would maybe be a good time to start this thread. I have seen a few revo owners recently on the board and are curious as to just how many revos there are on OSO. Let's see how many we can account for, and make sure to include tons of revo pics, whether it is your revo or not. :drink:

1990, Kevlar, #6s, 750hp Donovan's. We finished her up this spring and had a trouble free summer! Boat ran awesome every weekend. Runs 78mph on gps. I am doing some work to it this winter and am shooting to run in the mid 80mph with the same motors.

Here is our baby- a 1990 Revolution in Cleveland Ohio! She just had some new paint work done to get her ready to be in the Autorama here in Cleveland on St. Pattys Day weekend!

Sweet ride Sutphen38!!! Did you design the cabin yourself?? It doesnt appear to be original.

Re: Revolutions

When the boat was built- there was nothing down below- was built for speed. Was sent back to Cigarette 2 years later to have a half cabin put in it and we have tweaked it here and there since we got it!

I remember hearing in the early nineties there were some structural problems with the first revolutions. Does anybody know about this?

Re: Revolutions

built from 1990 to i think 1998, ours i believe was the 5th built judging by hin. i think the total produced was something like 66? with a lot of them exported to europe. mr.cig i saw listed for sale kinda recently with triple 500s and bravos instead of the original triple hawk 1000s and 6s. I sure hope ours doesnt have any structural problems, cuse wit trip 850s-950s (depending on pulley and fuel availability) i sure wouldnt want something fallin apart at 90 sumthin
sutphen38:what power you got in ur revo? what "tweakin" was done to it? how does it handle at speed? do you know how it handled without the cabin in it? feel free to post some more runnin shots of that beast :D

bshzba - those naturally aspirated motors sound real nice - saw/heard at G.H run - great job!

sutphen38 12-13-2006 10:32 PM

Re: Revolutions

As far as the power goes- we have a pair of 588 cid carborated 750 horse. The tweaking- the list is long and one that I could not begin to list off without my honey sitting here beside me! I have not heard of any structure problems with these boats at all- the only thing that we ever hear about these boats is the porpoising thing. The only in the water shots that I have of this one was all before all the paint was done a few weeks ago.... (I gotta tell ya- I think that he was more nervous when the boat was getting painted then during childbirth!!!! :) I dont think that he slept the whole weekend!!!

Does anybody remember the Red Revo with 900's and 6 drives? I loved that boat!

Re: Revolutions

Some of the inherant problems with the early Revolutions were weak decks that liked to flex causing stress crack. Also the bottoms under the engine rooms were week. many were repaired by adding extra supports (chicken feet) between the stringers.

Yikes  I can honestly say that I hope that is something that we NEVER have to deal with! Thanks for the info though- that is good stuff to tuck away for reference! We love learning anything and everything that there is to know about our baby.

Re: Revolutions

Thanks, The boat ran and handled the rough water great at smoke on the water. Last summer I ran the rev pretty hard and I checked it out last week. The only structure problems I have is the cabin liner break lose. And no stress cracks. I just got done rebuilding the engine hatch. Before it weighted 547lbs!!!! Now it weights (with out sun pad and rear seat) 194lbs. I also plan on pulling the floor tanks out and moving the water and wast tank back. Also I'm going to try to lighten up the cabin liner as much as possible.
