38 TG value

Hey guys I'm hoping you can help. I have located a 1994 38 top gun, the exterior of the hull looks perfect, it has twin 454's which have been gone through and updated with dart heads and valve train claimed to make 525hp and have 0 hours. The bilge is very clean and has dual Eddie marine battery boxes, new strainers and what appear to be all new trim pumps. Boat has spotless bravo brives with full latham steering and tie bar as well as new mechanical trim indicators. Also has the new style swim platform, mirrored raised engine hatch, 2003 cockpit interior and fairly new gaffrig guages. The down side is the cabin is disassembled (90% of parts seem to be there in terms of doors etc) I would need to do headliner and side upholstery as well as recover everything, also the guage panels need to be re-installed. What would you think it's value is?? oh yea it has a trailer but it's a bit worn out
Thanks everyone

My first thought is the horsepower claim seems high for a normally aspirated 454 unless it's been entirely rebuilt to hi performance. I may be new to the game here, but a re-do of the entire interior can be pretty expensive. My guess to offer would be around 50K +/- 10K, because it's going to take another 10-20K to complete with you doing much of the work. For instance, just to have a new cockpit cover done without the original as a template can cost a couple grand.

Thanks for your input but remember the cockpit is almost new (bolsters, rear seat and side panels. it's just the cabin which needs to be redone. I can buy the boat for 40k

Then I would think it's worth it. You'd have a nice boat for a great price. Going by what I see in the classifieds, you'd have a 60 grand boat worth about 90.

You can get the entire cabin re-done for about 10K (give or take a few K)

When you say re-done do you mean just upholstery or fitting doors hooking up the head etc??

I mean re-covering the walls, headliner, and cushions as well as new foam. I got an estimate about a month ago on that and it was 9K. I was thinking about replacing the fine Corintian leather that graces my cabin. :D :drink: That price was for vinyl, not leather.

Do you mean that this cabin in the boat that you are looking at is just bare fiberglass?

Quit questioning and right the check! I would go right now. Thats a deal if the boat is structurally sound. Don't waste time. I think others on the board would agree. Get a survey and a leakdown on the power.
