By the way, I've been in the boat Jeffrey posted...Bad azz. I never liked those either until I rode in that one. NICE! |

I appreciate all the insight. If I can find the right deal (since I currently have a trade) I'm pretty seriuos about pulling the trigger. I absolutely need to ride / drive one. Plan on calling my friends at Ilmor to see if they have any interest in a Gladiator / Ilmor project boat. First question is whether or not the V-10's can fit staggered. Keep the info & posts coming as you guys have certainly taught me alot in a mere 24hrs. PS- Phantom I think that one blew up in your face. Can't believe you allowed him to get a pic or didn't throw the camera overboard once you knew he did!! |
Be careful on the Ilmors in a staggered configuration. I had a hell of a time putting Fords in mine. Fords are wide like a tall bow tie block with big chief heads and they were tight. But the real tight fit was the length. I am not exactly sure how much longer they are than 525s but it was extremely challenging to get the forward engine between the the aft engine and the fuel tank bulkhead.
If you go side by side, You will have room for the longer length and trannies if needed. You will also have more out drive options if needed. Headers will be easier to have made or maybe get off the shelf. It takes lots of time (and $) when every single mount or bracket is a custom one of a kind piece. When I bought my boat, I had it built. Phil told me there was a negligible difference in Performance. I went staggered because my engines are very wide. Almost found out they were too long too. |

I think what make the Gladiator so Damn good looking is the proportions. Half the boat length is deck. They did not have to do that thing where the windshield is 8 feet in front of you so they can hide a stand up head underneath it.
Build quality is great. I have a Fountain too so anything looks like great build quality sitting next to that. They use Elmer's glue in the places Formula uses staples. I totally disassembled that boat to rebuild it so it would not break in half when in rougher water. I posted this picture before. It is the old school proportions that do it for me. |

I would say 94mph, maybe more if you really really dialed it in.
I found another pic of Otis' boat to show the great proportions. |
