I especially like the "O" ring transom gasket.

Opted for the big tiebar. They have a 1" but why skimp? The bar attaches right at the top of the drive instead of at the outboard ram attachments.

Drive fluid reservoir.

Mmmmmm :)

Dave's latest creation. He says $50 upcharge over the red fade...

The boy's just unreasonable. His lack of sensitvity to my budget is disconcerting.

nice tread!

nocigarette 03-15-2008 07:38 AM

WOOOOOOOOOOW those drives are awsome, i know the p-33 fountain of youth has been pounding on those drives for a couple of years with little or no problems at all......I love the metallic in the paint,,,,

satisfactionII 03-15-2008 12:09 PM

Great pics. Those drives and assemblies look awsesome. Your boat is going to look awesome after Dave does the fade paint job. :cool-smiley-011:

Enjoy the ride.

justice 03-15-2008 03:30 PM

Congrats! That looks like a great project.Keep the pics comming! What kind of horsepower are thore Konrads good for?

Chris Sunkin 03-15-2008 03:52 PM

To be honest, paint like that just isn't me. Subtlety is more up my alley. I like little touches that only people who really know what they're looking at will notice.

Plus, I prefer the flash under the hatches. Before I spent tens of thousands on a paint job that I'm certain I'd scratch the very first time out, I'd put it into motors and drives.

I wonder what an old 35 with sixes and 1250's would run like. Anyone ever had a flat deck over 130? :)

I have a call into Konrad- I'm going to do all the transom hardware in the matching color. Tabs, exhaust rings, water dumps, etc.

Chris Sunkin 03-15-2008 09:32 PM

The metallic particles are really big. I have a local guy who's done paint matching for me before- he does it entirely by eye and experience. I've yet to see him miss. I'm hoping I hear from Konrad that it's powder- that would make it just that much easier.

Biggus 03-16-2008 06:25 AM

Great thread Chris,

As for the drive paint, yes it's power coat.

Keep the pics coming!

Kurt

Chris Sunkin 03-18-2008 11:56 AM

Konrad is shipping the powder today. :)

bouyhunter 03-18-2008 05:12 PM

Cool stuff Chris.

I can see why you were getting a chubby just over the drive reservoir - that does look awesome.
Keep the pics coming!

THRILLSEEKER 03-18-2008 07:10 PM

Reservoirs look like Revoltions, way cool.

I believe they are.

bouyhunter 03-18-2008 09:29 PM

OK - need to get it done by June??? Why by June?
Is there a plan?? Or a need to get it done by then??
Are you planning on Charlie's race/run to Bimini??
I've been thinking about it myself in my boat. Not sure I can get everything together in time.
If you need a man in the boat to make the run, I volunteer for navigator/ballast.

US MUSL 03-19-2008 03:05 AM

Sweet thread, keep us posted on your progress. I know your pain, been there done that.

No way would I run a newly-rigged boat to Bimini- especially one with a small tank on it like this one.

June is just when it's nice enough to go boating around here. I'm a fair-weather boater. I'd rather just not go if it's cool or rainy.

If i had the time and the $$, I'd buy that tin Cougar 46 at LCM and stick a set of 1200's in it. That would be the ticket for that run. It would be neat to come in first in an old dinosaur like that.

Great thread BIG Daddy , keep us posted and tell GlazzDave to snap some pics and get em on here ....:cool-smiley-011:

Probably little visible progress to show. Looking at a pic of 120-grit sanded deck looks quite a bit like 240-grit sanded deck.

I should have all the deck hardware by week's end. I'm going with the slimline pull-up cleats and pop-up lights. I'm going out Friday to make templates for the dash panels- they'll be engraved aluminum plate. I need to fabricate a "pod" to go in front of it so the big gauges have somewhere to go.

8 bucks cheaper than what I paid. :(

I was in a hurry though. I don't want to hold Dave up- he's easily distracted. He keeps wandering off to sand on that upside-down rowboat.

:)

WMF 03-19-2008 02:44 PM

Boat looks great Chris, good luck with it, have you seen my resto project? Keep the pics comming.

Chris Sunkin 03-19-2008 02:59 PM

Yes, I've been peeking in. It's looking good. I hope someday to go back to working on my 41. I knew this would happen- I bought the 35 just to straighten up and use- something that wouldn't be a distraction. Had I put this much time, effort and money into the Apache, I'd probably have it running this summer. Oh well.

I don't know that new blower motors and Konrads are "might as well's" I think it's "the boy's got a screw loose".

On the 20- I'm now regretting selling mine.

It's the perfect candidate!!!
Don't run it too hard - run it to finish. Or just to be there.
Small fuel tank?? I saw two 180 gal. bladders for sale today - should do the job easily.

I refer to it as the disease "mightaswellanoma".:D
I have a serious case of this.
Fortunately, it was contagious to my wife.

Yeah, that's in my nature.

How much is a Sea-Tow from the middle of the Gulf Stream?

Stormrider 03-20-2008 09:02 AM

Chris, great project.
I kind of dig the all white scheme... reminds me of daddy cool.

With the all-red cockpit, it's more of a homage to Lucy's Mercruiser Special.

Now all I need is a Lucy. :)

Chris Sunkin 04-23-2008 07:18 AM

Progress-

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=185096

Dave's using my boat as an example in exchange for a HUGE discount on his services. ;)

This thread is a helluva lot more fun than that stupid political nonsense over in the bilge. Great looking project- one of my favorite hulls of all time.

Thanks Jay. Nothing personal, boys just like to tussle. It's hard to argue with someone who agrees with you.
