Gun vs. Tiger

What are your likes, dislikes?
Which has better resale value?
Does the 4' make a big difference in ride(does size really matter)?
Speed difference with same power?
Is this gonna stir up too much chit?:hitfan:

The ride in mine is awsome

thisistank 04-16-2008 03:35 PM

What are we talking here? Straight bottom or T/S? I've spent a lot of time driving and riding in both. Both are absolutely awesome in big water...Period.

offshoredrillin 04-16-2008 04:04 PM

I really dont think you could go wrong with either.

jeff32 04-16-2008 04:58 PM

never had any of those. but when I see the last... I guess 3-4 feet of the bow that is ''closed'' and totally useless, I'd go for the gun! assuming they are cheaper and faster with same power! But that's just my opinion and I never (unfortunatly) rode in either of those... I hope someday I'll be able to speak by experience!

dreamer 04-16-2008 05:05 PM

personal pref. thing.... tow storage water conditions.... $$$

i would go gun... just easier storage $$$$ docking $$$$ towing speed and i like the bigger cockpit... tiger is awsome thoough

resale both r good just think there is a better bigger market for a gun

Very well spoken for a boatless loser with no life! :D (As described by Mrs. Cuncept)

BraceYourself 04-16-2008 07:30 PM

I've rode in both. I like the extra length and the look of the bow on the tiger. More room on a tiger. Both are great though... Propbably better resale on the Gun.

1bagger 04-16-2008 07:39 PM

From what Ive seen the cockpit on a TopGun might be even a little longer . And the cabins are both the same beam .
Does the added length help on a Tiger ? Can't say .
I like my Gun only want for more speed but doesn't everyone ?

Paul

BraceYourself 04-16-2008 07:43 PM

Tiger cabins are taller then gun. Gun vs. 42X similar.

Wild 04-16-2008 07:47 PM

i would only go 42 if it had 6s hanging off the back, if bravo then go gun

there ya have it

nice!

MickeyBoy 04-17-2008 07:34 AM

I've rode in both.
And I own a TG
I like the extra length and the look of the the tiger.
More room on a tiger.
But in both I prefer the cabin style like my one .
i think that new Cigs ARE REALLY TOO POOR with less comfort like 1990 series .
The Cabin in Fountain and Donzi are much much richer and comfort

dreamer 04-17-2008 08:46 AM

more room on a tiger????????
tiger cockpits r smaller the a guns by a decent amount... barely stand behind the bolsters

The cabins are bigger by quite a bit in the tiger. More head room for sure.

Comanche3Six 04-17-2008 05:14 PM

Beautiful Powerboats!
Tiger gets my vote

Wild 04-17-2008 07:50 PM

cockpit smaller, cabin bigger.....................

To each his own. They are both great boats. Just depends on where you do your boating.

No doubt about it...#6 straight bottomed Tigers with big power are the sh!t!! I don't think anyone can argue that.

Here's a couple I've spent a LOT of time on.

But I don't think anyone can argue the up-side to a T/S blue motor Gun either.;)

The question itself is just to vague. Even if you're talking 90's straight Gun vs. Tiger, it's not just a simple answer.

First of all, like Mike said, the cabins in the 90's Guns/Cafes were the best Cigarette ever built, very user friendly. Tigers with 6s and big power take sepreme. If your marina doesn't offer it, you're screwed. I have a friend that owned a straight tiger (pictured) and sold it to buy a blue motor T/S 38 due to easier towing, fuel, hydra-hoist, etc.

We boat out here in the Pacific where it gets BIG. He hasn't complained about the ride in the newer T/S 38. Matter of fact, it ride true to its form...NICE...But then again, it's a cigarette, what do you expect?

Now if you're talking a brand new T/S 38 compared to a brand new 42X with 700's and NXT's...I think I'd take the 42X just for the "Bad mo-fo" factor you get with Tigers !!And yea, I know they're called 42X...I still call them Tigers!!!:D

that's my .02

Quiet Storm 04-18-2008 03:09 PM

The Gun to Tiger isn't a apples to apples comparison. I think a straight bottom Tiger to a 41 Apache would be a closer comparison.

Has anyone ever dared to compair the two? I'm sure that would be interesting.

I think set up equally it would be a good race. the similarities dont get much closer than the Tiger and the 41.

I believe Sacred Ground has had both powerboats?
Maybe he will chime in?

Jupiter Sunsation 04-20-2008 09:17 AM

GLH all your pics are great, but the sitting idle at the dock is my new background!

he did, he had the green tiger, i'll be the first to admit, tigers are set up as pleasure boats. I have only seen 2 42 set up as race boats and they had staggers and 6 paks and did very well in their racing circuits. Lk cumberland has one of them for sale

[QUOTE=Comanche3Six;2532321]Apache has pleasure 41's

no argument, take a 42 and a 41 equally powered and set up, it would be a race I would like to see.

Absolutely, a real Offshore Powerboat race, 6' seas and lots of open ocean.................bet on Apache

No offense, I know Apache is "king of rough water" and all but saying bet on Apache is a stretch. I've been on both in big water and really noticed no difference in ride and handling. They're both big heavy conventinal Vee bottoms and are basically brothers seperated at birth. No real difference in the two in my opinion.

And a 41 Apache with 1000's and sixes compared to a 42 Tiger with 1000's and sixes in an open water race would come down purely to driver (skill and luck).

What I like the most about that picture is the $815 of gas in the full tanks !!! :D:D:D

Hollowpoint 04-21-2008 06:53 AM

When you start comparing a Cig 42 and an Apache with similar power, you're getting to the point where you're not really comparing the boats, since they are so close in capabilities. Then you start comparing drivers and/or throttles, more like you would when you compare two sportbikes.....it comes down to the rider :)
