Mike, be very careful using the head. I'd say most don't use their heads because it will usually ALWAYS have a smell after the first time it's used. My head has NEVER been used. No toilet smell in our boat;)

Mikey - I would be sure to get a deodarizer that you can pour down the toilet to combat this. I do and it works pretty well at keeping the smell under control.

Wanna bet the holding tank leaks? They all do.

Open both valves (in & out) and see if water comes in and out when you flush. Make sure you close the exit valve (larger one) and push the buttons again. 15-20 seconds. Watch the bilge for any water. If no water in bilge, you're holding it in the tank. The tanks are small so don't go crazy. Pump it out or push it overboard when out at sea. If you need to access the tank, it's in the head, under the storage compartment.

I think what usually makes the odor is the holding tank...not really the toilet so much. I know it's against the rules but I replumbed mine so it bypasses the grinder pump and the holding tank and goes straight overboard. VERY strict rules on my boat- Pee ONLY and paper in the trash bag hanging on the wall.
This system has worked well for me...and no smell if you flush well before closing the boat up for the week.

The one I use is very similar. The rule is that if a woman forgets to put her paper in the bag then she has to go topless the rest of the day. That works for most...but some want to do that anyway!!
