Honestly Stecz whether people like it or not I am just commenting on the current market. I live and boat in S. FL which is the hottest powerboat market in the country (we boat year round, have inland/ ocean boating and a substantial amount of boats/ dealers). Now their are a few mint boats tucked away in barns/ garages all over America that will pull stronger money (like the 35 straight bottom sold recently at LOTO) but most of the stuff is just used fiberglass. What people are asking on some boats is no where near what they are being offered which is what I like to point out. Financing is tough, economy is tough, fuel/ insurance are at an all time high yet some sellers are still asking 2005 prices on boats that are older now which results in the long ads, stupid posts like "boat not selling, help."

I know of a mint 07 TG that is for sale and the guy cannot get a solid offer over 225K on the boat and that offer was more of a trade deal on a F430 Ferrari. Tons of excuses like no financing, got to sell a (house, RV, another boat) before getting the new boat. Tons of calls, not a lot of "players" in this game right now.

Think about it: How many people do you know actively shopping for a late model performance boat right now? How many ready to pull the trigger in the next 2 weeks/ month?
I can't think of a single person. Yet in years past it seemed every poker run (monthly) someone shows up with new hardware or had something on order. I only know one person (personally) who took delivery of a new boat in 2008. The Miami Boat Show Cigarettes (38,39) are still unsold from February! When have you ever seen that? Most of the time they are sold at the show and doing the MBS Poker Run the next week with FPC.......

this might be me but when a fella posts a sale price, we all know its padded cause he knows hes gonna get knocked down.. the game is to figure out the party that has to sell at your buying price.. its a very simple game, i dont see the need to speek of it in public.. there is one boat that was for sale that a friend of mine owns.. i know the price he got it and he has it 30 g higher than he bought it.. its none of my business, thats why they call it a private sale.....

Well said....

Here's something I wrote in another thread that I think applies...

To me, the bottom feeders are the ones (I wont say names) that continue to basically talk sh!t about others that are trying to sell their boats by saying "it's too much, over priced, not worth it" etc. The main problem with this is that these said people AREN'T EVEN INTERESTED IN THE BOAT. Just get on here and knock it.

Has nothing to do with getting a loan and I don't knock anyone that has a loan on their boat. Unless you're the one that can't afford the boat, can only qualify for 40k and keep coming on here talking sh!t to basically make yourself feel better that the market will get so soft you can afford the boat. To me, that's a bottom feeder.

And there is a negative connotaion with continually saying a boat(s) is over priced. You have a buyer and you have a seller. The sellers asking this price. The buyer keeps reading that it's too much on here and now believes it is just because someone esle cant' afford it.

Boats will sell and they'll sit. Makes no difference to me. Mines not for sale. But I'm not going to get on here and talk sh!t about someones price being too high. It's just f*cked up and doesn't look good. Basically a d!ck maneuvar to make negative comments about a boat someone has no stake in.

No more beating the dead horse.......but I will chuckle when I see the same boats for sale in March 09 for the same prices listed today, 6 months ago or even 2 years ago.

Hey Stecz if someone makes a couple bucks along the way I could care less, I actually admire that. BUT usually they have to significantly improve the boat (not talking wax, new tires on the trailer) and/or buy the boat extremely right. Too many people think a tune up, new trailer tires/lights and a new big stereo is going to add monster value to a 5-10 year old boat they just bought retail the prior season.

I too have seen boats sell and know the specifics but wouldn't out anyone here on OSO. Let the new owner enjoy the boat and think they bought it right.......

Well, I have bought and sold a few Cigarettes in my day.... and this is what I have learned. There are always sellers that will overprice their boats for a number of reasons such as owing money, spending cash making repairs or just bought wrong. There are buyers that will just buy irrespective of slight price variations for quality boats but.....

I truly think that in these economic times that a seller that really wants to move a boat is being silly to not to seriously entertain a cash buyer, especially with a loan on thier boat. If they are making payments it doesnt take very long to eat up the price difference in payments. I have always been cognizant of the big picture when buying and tried to respectfully inform sellers of the benefits of having a cash buyer in front of you. It is sometimes not compelling though. I remember a certain TG TS with 575's that I amde an offer on right before I bought the TG that Rogman has. We were about $7k apart in price and I passed.... he sat on that boat for almost 2 years afterwards and now I see it for sale again. Its all about your position. If you can afford to let it sit then you are OK. If you think that prices are going to spike back up then hang on to it....... although reality will say otherwise.

Its going to be a tough few years for offshore boats. Here are the facts in thispost though, I have a cash buyer with $$ in my business account ready to move.... that should be pretty motivating!!

I've got no dog in this fight......but I'll set a ball on the tee and let you take a big swing at it. I'm just curious, that's all and my boat is NOT for sale and nothing is owed on it....but in your opinion, what is my boat worth?

1988 kevlar TG with twin 700 N/A's (all NEW parts, not rebuilt, 64 hours) 1450 Huber Cryptonite trannies, #6 wet-sumps with 46 hours (gone thru by Craig Collabella last Oct.). '02 raised hatch, Dave Hunter paint blah blah blah

....and an '05 15K trailer

What's it worth? I figure it's somewhere between 60 and 130K. What do you think?

Very good post Brett, it is the same thing in the car business, the thing is when the keyboard jockeys come on here and look at a 200K boat and say it is only worth 125K, or they would only pay 125K when 1, they cant even afford that. 2, they aren't even in the market. 3, people that are looking and may not be totally up to date on everything are getting conflicting info.
same boat same scenario listed for 200K the owner is into it for 175K and just wants to move it, someone like you offers the 175K and the deal is made, everyone is happy providing the boat is worth that price and passes survey. But if someone lo balls and offers 125K they don't have the right to get pissy on the net when the guy doesn't accept the offer. Bottom line is, we all know that asking price and selling price are different. there is also a difference between for sale and must sell.
Bottom line is people like JS that come on and bash everyone's deals being a keyboard genius screws it up for everyone.

Its an older gun but with 6's and money spent on the right things (power, new trailer) I would pay 100K all day long/ you could ask 120K and not be insane to the right buyer. 60K is what a clean trs/502 with refreshed power would be asking......

Sounds fair enough. Like I said it's not for sale, Mama wants a cruiser and we''ll get one in a few years. Hell, I really don't see a reason to ever sell it, it'll be a nice alternative to a floating condo!

Why are you all being so hard on this guy?
