TopGun F2's ???
How fast were these boats with the 500 or 525 packages? I heard there were only 4 or 5 built...are any on the market? What are they worth?.....Jake1250

There are (4) T/S built:
1. Lip-Ship boat which we owned and sold about a year and a half ago. It had 525's, XR Shorties, boxes. It's in CA-not for sale. 2. MAXX which can be bought I believe without power. It's in NY. 3. Speed Racer, which has big blower motors and IMCO's, it has been set-up for pleasure. It's at LOTO and may be for sale..not sure. 4. Team Virgin, definatley not for sale...boat has 500's and prochargers it's in CA. The Lip-Ship boat definatley won the most and was most known. MAXX was only raced for a few races. Speed Racer was raced and flipped over once or twice. Team Virgin was raced for a year and then sold to the current owner. Generally speaking with the 500's they ran 88-90mph DEPENDING on set-up as some are set-up better than others, some are faster than others too. Our old boat was re-rigged with 525's and ran 92-93mph. You need to do your homework on these if you are interested in buying one. If you need more info send me a PM. |
Thats great info ...Thanks!
|
Maxx can be stoled right now with no power, everything else included even trailer, just drop in power
call 518-796-2666 |
Thanks...I always liked the Maxx boat...any impartial info on it? Current condition? any accidents? Thanks again for the input!
|
its in great condition, cockpit looks new, race hatch, never flipped rolled or in an accident, tres martin raced and rigged, but only a few races, no stress crack, etc.....
clocked at lake x 92 mph with 500's |
The 1998 F-2 raced by Scott Smith and Craig Barrie ran 80-82 with 500's. There was a second white and green boat built but never raced to my knowledge. These were convensional bottoms with little speed pads in the bottom.
|
What are the fuel tank setups in these boats? do they use a bladder like Fountain did in the 42 Pokerrun boat? Im thinking of having a F2 with the 500's or 525 for a pleasure boat...not interested in a cabin really, I just like the idea of the pedigree of a factory race boat...these in particular always intrigued me
|
Also , What are the downsides to owning one for pleasure, other than a cabin?

These boats ride extremely differnet than the regular twin steps. They are very flightly and require you to drive them at higher speeds but are very fun. They weigh around 8,000 lbs. You cannot go wrong with one though. Loved ours.
|
the cabin in maxx has a floor built into it with a cushion pad, nothing fancy but it works
|
What $$$ will take the Maxx boat home, no motors, boat and trailer?
Does it have the thin carbon fiber deck? Thanks, Kurt |
I have always liked speedracer and luckystrikes old boat. I wish i had the money to buy one.
|
LS - love your old boat. Did the Max boat and Speed Racer remove the 2nd set of throttles? I don't see them in the pictures..

After Speed Racers little mishap, Jeffrey bought it and had Tres Martin re-rig the whole boat. I'm not sure what the dash set-ups looked like whlie racing, but Jeffrey made it look exactly like a regular twin step. It has the same dash set-ups as your old 2004. MAXX's dash set-up is differnet than standard as you can see in the picture (I guess the way the orig. owner wanted it). I belive it is still the same today. The port throttles were taken out when the 2nd owner bought the boat. He also installed the electric cabin door. |
what is the price range on the maxx 30's or 40's? bad market hurts for these no cabin boats
|
nah, Maxx is paid for and loved dearly!!! if someone wanted this particular type of boat there would be a great deal to be made, but by no means is Maxx on the fire sale list, it will sit and get repowered before that,
if anyone is actually interested in paying a little less than market value on the boat call the above number, but i can tell you there is on offer for 60k on the table right now that wont be taken, im not saying thats far off, but 60k wont take it the old man just bought a cat and is building big blower power for it, should be done feb, just a 28 footer but should be fun/different for a while. Thats the only reason Maxx is on the back burner and up for possible sale if the right buyer came by |

the boat was purchased a number of years ago with power for less than $140K so I mean the boat is older, the market sucks, and it doesnt have power....what is it really worth would you guys say?????

My thought earlier was if I can get it for 60 I could have it running for about 95. then I was torn apart when someone thought cooter from Dukes of hazard was biulding my $35 K engines. Anyways thats why i remembered the 60 number. |
Hell even if its 70K there are a pair of 525s in the classifieds for 22K. Helluva ride for under 100K in my opinion. Wish I had the coin.
|
I love these boats for what they are....They are old raceboats....nothing more...I tried to sell my old Pantera racedeck forever....it takes a special buyer to own one, and it takes someone who must be comfortable owning for a while if they ever decide to sell because of the oddity that they are. Personally i dont think a race hull less power is worth any more than a full cabin pleasure less power, but thats me, and If someone wants something bad enough, they will pay for it regardless of my or others opinions. They are worth whatever anyone is willing to lay down....Pedigree? thats open to opinion.......Good luck to all who sell, and those who buy....Jake1250

1) The boat was not sold for 140k with power 2) Say you buy the Hull on a trailer with drives for around 80k, ive seen multiple pairs of 500EFI's low hours for sale around 22k, and a pair of Merc 525's for sale even for 22k LOW hours, 3) so lets do the math, 80k boat, trailer, drives, ready to go less power (+) 22k for good low hour Merc Power puts barely above 100k for a 90mph carbon fiber 2000 Twin Step Top Gun....... 4) even dreamer couldnt knock that deal 5) if cabin is your gripe, for another 8-10k bring it to lipships and have a brand new cabin, then you have a full Top Gun Set up for 110k. |

i agree with putting a cabin in, however i was looking at speed racer-which i think was fixed properly-i talked to tres, then called phil about doing cabin-he told me he wouldnt touch it so i discontinued my effort towards speed racer, but i still love that boat.
