Numbering Cig 20`s...
I am presently having my 1974 Cig 20' ( hull number 34 ) restored and I have an idea of owners of these boats. Since there were about a 140 or so of these boats produced in a 35year period, why dont we put a number on the side of the boat to indicate the hull number - like mine "34". This way at a glance one can see what production number the boat is.J ust thought I throw this out there - Don :party-smiley-004:

Mine would be 130-something...:readinghelp:
|
mine is 007...rigged originally by Bobby Saccenti.
|
Cool
What kind of power/drive do you have?
|
original jet drive boat, now a blackhawk on an ITS 500efi, soon to be whipplecharged.
|
if i'm reading my registration right it is #47 built 05/1975
|
Cool - I am looking at installing a aluminum smallblock - fuel injected 450 cu. in. 550 hp w/ an XR shortie. I wish someone would start a registry to see just how many of these boats are actually still around.

You'll love the 20, it handles surprisingly well for a little boat. I've rigged a number of old Cigarettes if you have questions. And I'm often in Towson. Barry |

Barry - No I did not get my boat from Jeff. My boat was given to me free for debts owed to me while working on a 42' Carver as livaboard Captain/Mechanic. My boat was sitting outside for over 15+ years occupied by very large wood ants ( my seats were shot from these guys ) - needs everything. It is white with red sides. A picture of it is on the "Lakeside Restorations" website under "Clients boats" - the pic of it is the day I dropped it off there. It is called "HellCat" - a lot of people know the boat. Don Aronow and Dale Lucas raced everybody they could in Miami in this boat in the day. Boat was in OC in the late 70`s and early 80`s. There is a local O.C. magazine article about the boat but I cant find one. From what I am seeing here, there are a lot of 20' Cigs in the Chesapeake area! I should have mine done in a year - cost of engine/drive package is delaying project. Why does HP cost so much!
Barry - Give me a call next time you are in Towson. 410-963-3521. We can have a drink at Hooters on Joppa Rd. Would like to talk more about these boats - rigging etc. It would be nice to have a local 20` Cig owner get together once in awhile. |

Interesting that your boat was built 7 months later but has a hull number 12 before mine. Sounds like the order from your boat may have been delayed, or they layed up the hull and didn't get to it until later, maybe because of options like color or power????
|
Barry - If I need your boat as a reference - I will gladly contact you - thanks. My boat was all intact except the engine was missing. I am having it restored while keeping the classic look. I am replacing all guages but retaining the original bezels. Presently, the boat has been stripped down completely. I am doing a full resto on it.

Barry - It looks to me like you have the 106th boat built. The zero after 6 is for double digit days. Keep it up guys, its nice to see these boats popping up.

Great...

all the internals are still made, and interchangeable. the cases are tough to find, but well worth it.

Ok guys, I have asked this question a couple times and nobody wants to answer it. I am sorry for bringing other builders in here and it is a little bit of a hi-jack but here goes. Can some one please tell me the difference if any (besides the 2 foot) between the 20 Cig and the 22 dare I say---Apache? The Apache's don't seem to bring the money or interest like the Cigs. Why is that? Are they basicly the same bottom?
|
Personally, I have never seen a 21' Apache - I would assume that these are just as rare. Maybe more rare that people dont know about them which accounts for the lower price. Would be great if you could show us a pic. I could give a personal opinion though I am not an expert. Also, I have a Apache T-Shirt that I bought at the Apache Plant on 188th St. a few years ago if anyone is interested in buying. $40 plus shipping - never worn.

http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o27091-en.html I am thimking I should be buying this one.
|
My personal opinion on the Apache Scout: Its a nice boat but not as sleek looking as the 20' Cigs. The engine/drive package needs to be updated - not enough hp for that boat. It does not have external steering nor K-planes. It would be a nice boat if your not a hp junkie. If your looking at upgrading engine/drive package, your looking at $50,000+ if you have someone else do it :D

Yes, I am doing the resto on CigaretteDon's 20 cig.. It is a good project. The goal is to have modern technology & big power, but keep the old school looks as much as possible overall.. The power plan is a LSM 550 Raylar with XR drive set up & shorty.. :) Currently the boat is stripped & getting its hull work done so it can get repainted and the interior is slowly getting put together as well. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Whatever you buy......you will reward yourself by getting one that's already running, or VERY close to it.
Many people don't realize how many little things go into "restoring" a boat when it's time to put it back together. Tearing it down to a bare hull is the easiest, cheapest part, which is why you only see probably 4-5/10 of them ever get back on the water when these projects get started. These $5-10k boats will have double that into them with A LOT left to go in a hurry. Hoses, fittings, brackets, etc, all add up! Wild's needs a paintjob and updated interior, and I guarantee you most people will think it's been totally redone with just those two things accomplished. It's ready to run otherwise, and a good price when you add up the time & stress you saved. Jus sayin!:ernaehrung004: |

What a small world, a good friend of mine (who was the owner of very first 38 Cigarette) sublet the Hyundai property to Maserati folks and if you work at Lexus as well, I'm guessing you know Laurie Isaacs. Yes, we ought to do lunch out there one day.
