1988 top gun hull?
How does it compare/differ from the early to mid 90's hull?

I think the 88 hull did not have a transom notch. The notch is good for 3-5mph.

The cabin layout is different.
The pre 1990's (and some 1990 models) had the two couches on both sides. The 1990+ had the cocktail table downstairs and a cooler you can store a mob hit in on the right. The pics below are of the Cafe Racer (the 35') but you get the picture. In the Top Gun technically the couch on the left in the old style has an extra seat sandwiched in, and in the Top Gun newer style cabin the couch actually flows into the V-berth as opposed to being a circular couch like in the Cafe Racer's. You can get the gist though.... Edit - last pic is of a TG cabin POST 1990.... |

I believe that the only year that the top guns did'nt have a notch was 87.

Cigrocket. In my experience, with my 1984 flatdeck, when I put a notch in the transom, I did not pick up 3-5 mph. The only way you will pick up the 3-5 mph with the notch is to also raise the drive height. The notch with #3 or #3A drives puts the prop shaft really "deep" into the water and, in my opinion, negates the notch.

DRAG slows u down and less you have faster u go,,but since the back of the hull is mostly /always in the water that drag is natural so the drives had to go up atleast 4-6 inches to make more speed with same power. So boats that had thru V and #3's now had a notched transom and #5's ,,,thats what made them faster !!!!!!!! I know most of you dont like me ,,and i dont whant to be a smarta$$ ,,,but this is absolutly the reason for a notch. Later the steps where ment to raise the drivehight even more and need to be to get the boat on plane without losing handling in the ruff,,,,we all know that did not realy work so well. LOL |
My other Cig TG the 88' didn't have one but my 90' does...not to mention I thought the overall weight changed over the years (at least as stated in the NADA under dry weight) and yes I realize the NADA could be wrong..i'm just going off what I read.
