Some interesting reading

A 33' powerplay will keep up with most boats that are bigger than its size. Definitely not a 38' top gun, but it will hold its own. Thats what they are known for. Big water, high quality custom v hulls.

Dont knock them until you have ridden in one and got up close. I think you will be surprised![/quote]

I have seen more stress cracks in a 38 TG then in a 33 PP ,,,handling ,,ofcorse does a longer boat take the beating better then a shorter one ,,,but HIGH QUALITY ????? On a cig ?
mmmmmhhhhh................Whatever.....?!
All i am saying that a 33 PP is capable of keeping up ,maybe not @ 80+ but u need twin 1000 and some heavy drives to make a TG run those speeds .
We are talking 7200 pounds verses 12000 pounds !!!!!
With stock power ,my PP ran 76 on GPS, 454 mag and Bravos.
A buddy of mine had a TG same engine package ,,i smoked him in all kinds of water,,because he could not even get the stern up in that heavy sled.
Then a Cafe with 420's and TRS joined the club ,,,,,smoked him as well,,,so first of all ,,,i guess we should determine what power in each boat and where are u going to boat with what in mind...party's and allot of people on board or just fun runs.......otherwise all these comparisons don't make sense.
Also the budget factor is A REAL BIG THING between the 2 boats.
And like i said before ,,,4-6 footers in both ,,u need balls,,in the PP a little bigger ones ,,but if the boat is dialed in correctly ,,it should hang with a 38 easy.
Handling ......what kind of handling are we talking ???.......docking and trailer ....+2 for PP
5-10Foot seas ,,,,+1 for TG (older ones)the new ones will fall apart)
Fuel economy ,,,,no way a TG can hang with a 33PP in that point.
Maintenance ,,i say PP wins.
Working on the engines,,,TG has more room to work on.
Cabin ,,ofcorse the TG wins.
It all depends,,but lets not compare speed and handling in 5+ seas because thats not what a boater want's anyway's and its out of question that u need twice as big of a check book for the TG then for the PP.
If i would still have mine ,,i give all of u Cig guys a ride in it ,and u would probable think about selling your cig.LOL
Later.

PS.: with my twin 650's and boxes infront of my Imcos,,,i smoked them anyways and all the time,,the only one i can think of that gave me a hard time ,,THEN,, was a 388 Hustler with twin 600 VOLVO's ???? mmmhhhh.........
here is apic of my old ride.

keep in mind I am not writing this I just copied it from the Power Play forum. This is from Daredevil. I am just curious if you guys disagree:popcorn:

I thought these two back to back were funny....

pm203 06-01-2009 10:27 AM

Powerpoop beats the Cig in quality? I dunno about that.

Von Bongo 06-01-2009 10:35 AM

Well...what really gets me is in another post he said it will run with a 41...since Cig doesn't make a 41 footer there can only be one manufacturer he is refering too...yep, a 33 Power Play will run with a 41 APACHE!!!!

This thread can now officially go down the tubes.:picard1:

WOOOOHHH,,,when was the last one they did win ??? 1990 ??

My friend ,,don't ride on things u have no clue about,,,DON ARONOW won all these championships back in the day and some followed him in the 80's and early 90's.
Powerplay won championships as well ,,in less time ,,if they would still race and be around they would probable win again.
If i had one i would. I sold mine ,,the stupidest thing i have done.

So don't even go there.

U all live on a LEGEND and NAME ,,thats it !!!
And like i said i like Cig's but if u compare a stock Cig with a stock PP ,,,NO CHANCE !!!!

Sorry again.

I could have have saved thousands and went with a 33 PP. I have to say I do like the PP but to put it in the same league and call it hte victor........well thats not even funny

bmanafort 06-01-2009 07:24 PM

All these guys are the same. He would give his left n-t for a Cigarette if given the opportunity. I guarantee you he has a Cigarette shirt in his closet.

Um, I guess he failed to remember all the wins the Lip-Ship T/S won (world champion) in the early 00's (lucky strikes old boat). All the wins the 45' Rio Roses boat won in the late 90's, all the wins Tres had in the Virgin boat in the early 00's and of course the wins the current 46' Cig is having over seas (just to name some recent wins with new technology off the top of my head).:rolleyes:

Besides the the imfamous stuff that killed the driver (see pic above) I don't recall much PP action in offshore racing. Any championships in recent years from a PP? Just wondering because he specifically said a newer Cig would fall apart in big water.

Ahhh, the debate goes on. What are you going to do? Can't blame a guy for loving his boat. But like others have said, saying a 33 PP is a better choice over a Gun? Whatever. There's a reason the Top Gun (and Apache) is the staple in rough water ride that is compared to by all others.

I personally like the PP's. I think their styling is very nice (they look like a Cig, what do you expect?). Had a friend that had a killer 33 PP 3 man bolster, staggared motor race set up. Killer boat and handled the rough well. But I'm sorry, it's like the old saying "size does matter". There's just no comparison to the lack of 5 feet in big water.

Jamie B. 06-01-2009 08:57 PM

Seems like Daredevils thing is mainly about top speed, he's mentioned it many times.

<shrug>

Maybe he shoulda just bought a 32 Fountain instead if thats mainly whats important to him. Would have had much better resale value too.

No worries here, I certainly am not going to loose any sleep over his opinion.

DareDevil 06-01-2009 09:30 PM

All u guys are just toooo funny.

First i did own a 35 CAFE ,,second that whole discussion in the PP thread is about egual power ( stock ) and whats better overall ,,not just handling but also money wise.
So i just stated facts.
The newer wins ,,i have not forgotten from cig ,,but again cig had 200 raceboats since its debue or more ,,,PP only had 10 if that,,,and u all seem to forget that.

Its like who has more props,,,Herring or a boat owner.......:grinser010:

WHATEVER,,,,,,just so u know ,,i like cig's just not that much anymore,,because the optimum cig for me would be way to much dollars. And i hate paying for a name not a product.

Sorry

But keep on lieyng to yourself about the great boats u got...
Its a V hull like most of them with a nice design and a CIG logo on the side. LOL:eek:

Lying to themselves?

It's great that you have enjoyed your PP so much, but to say that Cigarettes are just a name on the side, and crap boats otherwise, is just ridiculous, not to mention disrespectful to someones intellect.

The new Cigarettes are in fact better boats than the classics. I've had 4 of them, and the newest one I had was the best. It rode, handled, and was a much tougher boat than my 1992 Top Gun.

The myth of them only being a name and all hype, always comes from someone that couldn't justify the price of whatever Cigarette they liked, before settling for something else. No one is lying to themselves besides you, and with any driver capable of handling a dockline, a 38 Cigarette will outperform ANY 33 PP with similar setups EVERY time. No need for a ride to compare, been there done that, bought a Cigarette.

Cigarette has had shady business dealings for decades, and still remains in business, better than ever today. Powerplay had shady business dealings, and are gone.... The reason Cigarette always bounced back, is due to the quality and respect of their product. Powerplay might have enjoyed the same rebirth, if they had built a product worthy of financially taking a chance on to get going again.

The only reason why Cig is bouncing back and did like 12 times ,,,is because of the name !!!!!!

I did not mean that they are crap ,,,but WAY over priced.:party-smiley-004:

Sorry

Never Buy a Powerplay!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You might want to clarify Power Play Marine Inc or Plower Play Boat Company. As some of you might not know Dan Weinstein
owns both companies and those of you that have worked for him know that one company pays him and his sister their paychecks and the other company pays the employess (usually three weeks late if at all).

Dan bankrupted both the companies in order to avoid 100's of thousands of dollars owed to creditors and private individuals.

In a recent court ruling the one company was forced back in to normal operation after the bankruptcy plan was rejected by the judge. The second company in the past few days went to court with the following result:

Objection By Creditor Nation's Loans, Inc To [71-1] Amended Disclosure Statement by Power Play Marine, Inc. . (sh) [EOD 11/24/04] [03-28089]

Nation's Loan was one of the Creditors that had attachments on several items including a fish boat that was in the back of the shop for a few years because the MSO was collateral for another loan. The Serial Number on the boat was changed recently to reflect 2005 and the boat is now on the street for sale.

Dan is by far one of the best con men and BS artists to ever walk the face of the earth. He is good at getting people to buy his sob stories.

If he has enough money to pay for the Miami Boat Show entry of $30K he should pay back the money he owes to too many people to list.

If you do not listen to the warnings from people like myself than I suggest you make sure you write your check to the right comapany. So will the real Powerplay please stand up, Power Play Boat Company or Power Play Marine Inc. Do a search in the South Florida region for Bankruptcy filings and Dan Weinstein and you might put that check book back in your pocket.

The 38 Powerplay hull was stretched and is now being sold by Sunsation, a reputable company. Less money and you will actually get your boat. Who would sell their "latest and greatest" hull design to a competitor unless you were in dire straights.

Ask around for the real stories of Dan and his games, he is a real piece of work or shoud l I say ****.

See the Bad Business List here on OSO, see the Sunsation forum for moree information.

Dan is on the same level as National Marine, Denny we will add you to the list of corpses that he has left in his path.

I dont think anyone here has an issue with PP. We have more of an issue how daredevil has to knock Cigarette down in order to prop PP up.

I didn't read any comments knocking Cigerette to prop up Powerplay until 4195 made this comment.

( I think Power Plays are a great boat, way better then a Baja or Scarab, but they are definitely no Cigarette. Go for a ride in a Gun and tell me what you think. This no knock on the Power Play but they are in different leagues.)

Oh, and Powerplay is one word.
