pics - they just slide over 4" pipes and are exactly 5" long, and slide 2.5" over your tips. So if you cut your tips to 2.5" long, these would stick out 5" from your transom.

I think I picked up maybe a mph or two at most - blew the motor by the time I got a GPS and tried some long hard runs for a max speed - 540 was tired anyway, no major damage.
Best thing was that I could run 4 and 5 blade props for better cruise speeds and rough water running without cringing the whole time.

What height is your propshaft from the bottom of the boat?
Have you tried any more props?

27 x 14 5/8 mirage plus 3 blade - way too much slippage all around, especially in turns
29 x 15 1/4 mirage plus - labbed - better, but still slipped
27 P-5 hydromotive - awesome hookup - like adding drag slicks to a car. Stayed hooked in rough water, could stay on the throttle way more often - also great for my 18mph wakeboard runs with tabs all the way down......would slip at all in the turns
30 bravo one - labbed - one size too big, but love the way the boat runs with it - keeping this one - this winters rebuild might fit this prop perfect. Still slips a bit on the wakeboard runs, but stays hooked pretty good in the rough stuff. Which reminds me......gotta get Dave Gavatos his money!!!!

Hi all,
I am the proud owner of a small but very cool offshore boat: a 24' Squadron XII. I absolutely love it.
I keep in on a large fresh water body in a very large archipelago with rather narrow channels and a new noise restriction was just implemented.
Currently the boat has a mildly warmed up 1979 400TRS Mercury 454 V8. In stock form the motor produces 370 horserpower, but it has had some minor mods which likely boosted horsepower in the 10% range. The exhaust however, appears to be stock.
While the easiest solution would be to clamp on Borla's new mufflers outside the transom, the positioning of the dual hydraulic steering arms prevent the application of anything outside the boat.
As such, I'm trying to figure out if anyone knows of any high-performance mufflers which are highly effective of lowering noise but do not rob a lot of power which fit between the (stock) exhaust elbows and the inside side of the exhaust tips. Currently there is a 4"-diameter rubber hose between the two about 18" to 24" in length.
Suggestions?

I recently installed the Hardin Marine selectable mufflers on my 24' cig. I too had about 18" of the 4" rubber hose connecting the tail pipes to the tips. The beauty of these mufflers is that they mount inside the transom and have integral tips that extend through the transom. They take up about 9" inside the transom. When switched on, they do quite the exhaust note a bit; not sure I would consider them "highly effective" though. They worked for me.
