And not just you, but your spouse as well if you are married, as there is always going to be the chance she will have to get you home. If she is anything like my ex, you will have to fight her to drive!

I love boating, and learned the old fashion way, so yes, I'm old school. And the more folks out there having fun the better. But I was hesitant to step up 10' in length, even after driving a 30' boat a good deal of the summer. Had a good friend who used to race boats not said he would be totally comfortable riding with me in a 38, (it was his 30 I was driving) I would have still been hunting for a 30 instead of going with a 35.

Just me.... But whatever you get, have fun and be safe! You can't go wrong with a Cigarette either way you look at it!

And edited to say, THANK YOU for you service in the sand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you made it back safely!!!
I am not going to disagree but that depends largely on the person. I stepped from my father's 1974 Wellcraft V20 into my Cafe Racer and didn't miss a beat. Never cracked a dock, never had a mishap (other than me trying to moon someone, and slipping off the swim platform and slicing my side open on the prop). Personality, and experience around the water play a big roll - I know the T/S is a slightly different animal than my cafe and either way you can't be too careful, but depending on the person it might not be a terrible step.

I moved up from a 24 footer to a 35 ft Mistress. It felt big for the first few weeks. But it was no big deal. If you can drive a 30 ft. boat now then go for at least a 35 footer. I've since moved to a Top Gun, have fun.
