RG.

Mine are pretty rare. They came off of one Gentry's cats from the 1980's. I have never seen another set like these. I had new gears made for both sides to get a gear ratio of 1.56 rather than the 1.25 they had. Also had to make new custom prop shafts with a 26 spline- they came with a 23 spline.

Given what you did to those drives they must be worth more than my boat. I know now why your rig performs the way it does.

Nice looking Cig. What do you have for power and drives?

Rick G 09-27-2012 04:44 PM

I'm running 605 cu in tall decks NA on 91 octane pump gas at 725hp and No 3 drives. Would love to run a pair of drives like your but I don't think it isin the budget.

That should run real good.

Hi gents. I am pulling the motors next week to freshen everything up. Time to rebuild both short blocks and heads. I think there may a few wet spots in the transom if so I will rebuild that as well if there is in fact water in there. If I do redo the transom I will try and improve on the position of the drives. My question is for the flat deck gurus out there What x dimension works best on these hulls. In other words how far below the hull should one set the prop shaft to make this hull work best. I am not looking for a race set up but something that will give good speed but still able to plane without revving the motors to their death. This hull does not have a notch.
Thanks RG.

Frank you ever try dropping the drives with the 2 " spacers you have to help get on plane? I`m still interested in those btw, sent ya a pm few days ago...

Hey this is a great thread to come back too. Yes I dropped off the face for awhile and yes i still have the old girl. She has stayed dry for the last two seasons (not by choice)!!! Before that I was boating out of Racine 100% of the time. Anyone still have that photo from M/C when i Believe we had 5 rafted off together?

H2o puts on a old school reunion on lake St. Clair with Miller Marine. It would be a great time to pull the Flat decks together... I'll be there and I think Full Force will be to.

Puple and White 38 Flatdeck

Looks like the boat I rigged in Md back in the mid 90's. We had to block up the engine hatch to get the 572's in. The boat was origionally white with yellow red and orange stripes when I got it. Still looks Great,Classics never die!

Tom,

Yes I bought it out of MD some years ago. I still have all the recites and paperwork for the last couple power variations that were in this boat including the 572's. I assume I still have the blocks you used but with now 4 inch cranks 509ci instead of 4.5 inch that you would have used to make 572ci as the cylinders are 4.5 inch bore. My next rebuild I plan to go back to 572's.
You dont have any photos of it from back then do you? I would love to have as much history as possible on the boat.

Thanks
Russ

Someome need to buy Chris's 1100hp 100mph #6 Flat deck . He has been listing a bunch of his parts on the swap section and is talking about taking it apart to sell . Probably make someone a great deal with or with out power . A Beautiful boat , he has put a lot into the build . It would be a shame to see him strip it . :eekdrop:
