Yes the boxes will put the drive back 12" and down further but you can and would probably have to to go up like 3" but you would be running in cleaner water and be able to go up in pop pitch resulting in more mph. IMO running just shorties no boxes has those props closer to the surface which in chop or bigger water will result in cavitation equaling a loss of mph. Boxes and shorties work real well in some situations and not so well in others, I think there is a little voodoo there....some trial and error.

Natlee if speed is what you are after get the Arizona speed updates for those motors I believe they make them 625hp. Someone can chime in here but I think it has a smaller pulley and a ecm update.

I spent an hr taking to az speed the other day. The kit your talkin about comes with a smaller pulley takin it to 6 lbs, msd ign., cooler thermostat, and reprogram the computers. Its a $1,000 a side with a gain of 80 hp a side !! I'm just nervous about bumpin up the boost. I'm guessing merc put them were there at for a reason. Or I could just go buy a cat and quit messin around !!!

2K is cheap for that HP gain !!! Go for it!
