Top Gun Cockpit Replacement Project
2 Attachment(s)
I'm planning on tearing out the cockpit upholstery this weekend in my old Top Gun. Did a little research and , other than needing an engine hoist to remove the back seat and get the new one in, it looks relatively easy to do. I've got the whole set out of a 200? T/S that is going in there. I have the side panels as well, but am planning to recover my existing ones and use them. My upholstery guy says that he can get it done in a week. The question that I have is... has anyone gone with a different color for the side panels (I'm thinking of blue that will match my paint) and how did it turn out?? I'll also get the fairing collar re-done in the same color blue and keep the orange stripe instead of the purple that it is currently.
Pictures below of the current setup... |

What's going in there. The hatch recover will have to wait until this winter.

Hey Craig give me a call if you run into any problems, as you know I recently took mine out.
Have you thought about doing the sides all one panel all the way to the floor? That's what I'm doing and I'm going to do a border in charcoal I think with white main panel and some accents around the speakers. I relocated the fresh water shower in the port side panel near the floor to the transom above the rear cleat and it's a really slick setup...just some food for thought and to spend some more money :evilb: Let me know if you need any help buddy. |
Id be interested in your bolsters for my flat deck and Im "kind of" local before you list them for sale!
|
I'm interested in the complete intertior if it's not sold or spoking for
Thanks Jay |
Question on the new back seat from the TS. I was told back in the day a seat out of a TS wouldn't go into a strait hull boat because the cockpit was a different depth. Curious if you had to make any mods? Also I thought he step pads were in a different place and the old side panels wouldn't match up.
Keep us posted on what if any mods you have to do. |

True dat... Just to clarify, I was referring to the back seat possibly not fitting due to cockpit depth. This isn't my first rodeo... :D

The width of the cockpit in my boat is 80". The new seat is 80 and 3/4" at the top. Everything else lines up perfectly. I decided to wait until the boating season is over. My moto is always "do it once and do it right" I'll stick with that.... :D
It may fit just fine if the seat structure is taller that what is in there, I didn't measure that. Once it was apparent thatit wasn't something that I could do in an hour or two..... we abandoned the idea, went boating and had some fun. That's how we roll in Edgerock!! :D:evilb: |

After measure, re-measuring and then measuring again, the back seat would not fit. :( The good news is that I realized this before removing anything! :D Everything measured out good with the exception of the seat base at the top in the very back. It is 3/4" too wide. I'm dropping off the seat at my upholstery shop today and he is planning to pull the vinyl back and trim a little of the edges and re-attach it. Then she should slid right in!! Maybe it would fit without doing this (by getting a couple of fatties to jump up and down on it), but I'm willing to take that chance in mid-season. :D:ernaehrung004: |

Update... The new back seat is in!!!! 3/8"was shaved off of each side (just in the very top of the structure) and this beeotch fits like a glove. Getting the old seat out was easy. Two screws in each of the floor brackets and three lag bolts from inside the bilge, the battery switch box unscrewed and fit through to under the seat and it lifted right out. Then..... the cleaning started. What a phucking mess!!
here are some photos if anyone is interested... :) |

OK... A follow up on this one.
I had plans to tow the boat to FineLine Marine Interiors in January to get the side panels and the hatch done and then attend the Miami Boat Show Poker Run. I got the boat there and had a few days to kill, so we started tearing chit apart. We couldn't figure out why the center piece of the back seat had loosened up, so we pulled it out of the boat. The wood was rotted!!! At that point, the budget was thrown in the trash and all wood was to be removed from all components. A COMPLETE re-do. :angry-smiley-038: I have to say that Mike and his staff @ FineLine are awesome. Besides being SLAMMED to get a couple of Statements done for the boat show, he kept assuring me that the boat would be ready. I gave him my thoughts on what I wanted and let him run with the design. I wanted plain blue side panel, not a fancy mix of colors. What he did do was to put blue accents on the sides of the headrests, drop-out bolster cushions and edges of the back seat structure. This really set it off in my opinion. I also didn't want too many Cig emblems on it, so I went with a "custom" design on that (Thanks Speedy ;) ) All in all, I am VERY happy with the way that FineLine does business and would highly recommend them to anyone! |
You're right. Those blue inserts tie the solid white seats with the solid blue sides. Very creative. The camo bags fit well also !!!!!!
