I agree. The 572 custom built engines, trannies, Gaffrig headers with Gaffrig silencer tips, and #3 SSM drives are worth quite a bit. All the engines parts are top of the line (especially from 10 years ago) and the 12 qt Gil pans add to the mix.

Yep, both engines fired up and sound great in person. No leaks in the engines or the headers.

My understanding is that only about 30 sets of these Gaffrig headers were made. The middle section can be taken out.

We only did a visual check before firing them to make sure they ran.

Quite honestly, it was a gamble that could have gone either way. Jim (the seller) sounded straight and honest so I took the leap of faith.
I hope to have the engines dressed out and installed in a couple months.

Default Ignition systems

The carburated 572s now have older Mercruiser V6 ignition systems, but I don't believe there are rev limiters. Does anyone have a suggestion on what ignition system might be better? I am leaning towards the MSD 6ML package with the billet ditributors, but I am open to suggestions. Bill

Bill I run 605 cu in N/A big blocks in my flat deck and I run the msd 6 ml boxes with merc distributors without issues. My motors make about 725 Hp.

FWIW, I'm a big fan of the Thunderbolt IV w/the V6 module. It works well for your application, simple, reliable and can be diagnosed with a test light. No, it does not come with a rev limiter, but if you have to have one the HP500 carbed rev limiter will connect right up to the TB IV.

I've experienced too many MSD failures to ever consider that route again.
