The boat looked so much cooler with the rooster. :(
Having them deeper in the water = less throttling , easier on drives, easier ride plus a rooster is energy wasted.. see I`m trying to talk myself into keeping the spacers. With the addition of the Drive Guardian this winter I could say who cares , TABS UP THROTTLES DOWN ROOSTER UP! Gonna be a loooong winter http://33outlaw.zenfolio.com/img/s10...748436-215.mp4 |
Nice Video!! Did you have more speed with the drives higher? Why not just put the 1" spacer in and leave it at .5" below?
|
Thanx!
Never ran it with the curent set up no spacers.... I don`t have a 1" spacer or the studs to go that route...and i`m thinking why go up 1" .. if I`m gonna take the trouble to take the drives apart might as well just lose the spacers all together |
going higher isn't always better. It depends on how fast you plan on going, a 70 mph boat will run faster and better with the drives deeper. The drive leverage helps carry the hull (this applies to straight bottom boats) and reduces overall drag. On a maximum effort setup looking to go over 100mph the hull is running out of wetted surface and running the drives high helps to reduce drag. From my experience at 90mph 1 inch below the bottom does not hurt you. In rough water at cruise deep drives stay hooked up way better.
Another factor is how much you plan on spending on props. 4 blades props run deeper than 5 or 6 blade higher rake props. Go Arnesons and adjust your drive height on the fly. |
Well after a rethink I am going to stick with the original plan and run the 5 drives without boxes and see if the notch is going to do what it is suppose to . The original thinking was either an 8 to 12 inch box or the notch . I put the notch in so I might as well see if the theory works . I can always add a box.
88bullet I am curious to see what the X dimension is on your pals topgun . It appears he running with a 2 inch spacer. RG. |
