i had a company in CA (cant think of name at moment, but is/was a sponsor of site) fab replacement teak trim out of billet for the cabin door. i then had it powder coated. I am now going to do the same for the gunwale plate & also for the rear bench steps.

Eddie Marine makes generic gunwale plates but i didnt like the lengths.

Get some 3/8 white starboard and cut it to size. Then run it on a table saw at only an 1/8 deep to put some traction lines down them.

Starboard (HDPE) is slick stuff, but it machines very easy and nice. If you go to use it in a traction application, like a step plate, make your saw kerfs Griz mentioned 90 degrees to each other. That should reduce the likelihood someone slips and hurts themself or your boat while using HDPE step plates. But it is still going to be slick, especially if it's wet.

For a man who at one time or another always has everything to put a boat together you should be able to track down a few teak pieces.

Here is the original company that made these step plates, they are still in business but changed from teak to starboard in their products:

MarQuipt
3100 Southwest 10th Street Pompano Beach, FL 33069
(954) 957-8333
www.marquipt.com

If you call them and explain what you have and need they will make them for you, I bought 10 pieces of the teak for mine in 2008 for $88.00 shipped, they slipped right in the channels and the step plates are as new.

Note: add an 1/2" to the length for good measure.
