I just bought my first, what I consider, Big boat. Its a 1999 Cigarette Top Gun. All Original. I bought it from Tres Martin sight unseen and so far some very reputable members have all confirmed its a sweet boat..Good news considering the risk I took. Still haven't seen it to date and wont see it for another couple months when its delivered to its new home in Southern Ca.
I wanted to document the process so you guys can see it. This thread wont be to much to show like some of the builds but I think it will be cool to document the before/during/after.
Boat is at the painters now. Its getting all new paint design, hull updates, full interior redesign, sound system, lighting and Panel. No motor work Im leaving those stock.
Here is a picture of the before. Stay Tuned.

I saw it when it was delivered to the painter. It did look pretty clean for being original. Should be really sweet when she is done.

airshares 05-03-2013 10:48 PM

Its pretty exciting for me. Going from a Scarab 22 to Scarab 29 to Top Gun 38.
When its delivered its not only gonna be a new boat to me but I will be seeing it for the first time 2 months after purchase and with a brand new dress!!

J-Bonz 05-03-2013 11:03 PM

Thats a big step up!!! Congrats on the new ride. Cant wait to see what you do to it!

JR,

Glassdave is doing the paint, and I will be heading up to his shop in a week or so to pick-up the cockpit interior. Should be a fun project.

Nice Congrats!

glassdave 05-07-2013 08:53 AM

Its actually a very well kept original boat, looks to have had a pretty charmed life. The electronics are period correct museum pieces and for the most part nothing on the boat has been messed with or altered from OEM . . . . . until now :D

Tom A. 05-07-2013 11:33 AM

Congrats on the new boat!

It was a good move up, I did a similar progression (22 Donzi, 29 Kryptonite, and now my 38 Donzi)
I figure if you are going to go twin engines, might as well go for what you want!

Good move going with GlassDave, he did an excellent job on my Kryptonite when I needed some work!

Quinlan 05-07-2013 05:13 PM

Nice move!

I see a pattern here- I went 21 Baja, 29 Baja 38 Gun Screw those baby 3' steps!

Racerngr1 05-07-2013 09:47 PM

Congrats on the new boat, can't wait to see it in Southern CA.

tcwcar 07-18-2013 07:43 PM

Looks Greaaaaaaaaaaat, Dave your getting to be an expert at that style of paint job...

airshares 07-18-2013 10:38 PM

paint and hull work = GlassDave
Interior = still under construction but collabrative effort between XT Inovations and Glassdave. Going with entire re-design. Also added an entire new JL sound system. Dash, GPS etc. Pics to follow when I get them.

You have the boat and interior in safe hands even if your 1000+ miles away..... :)

I bought the boat in Florida in April sight unseen. Shipped it to Dave and still havent seen it to this day except for pictures.

You are a brave man. Good luck with the project.

Wow!!!!

kvogt 07-19-2013 08:14 AM

looks good

Sydwayz 07-19-2013 08:26 AM

You guys really need to be careful reviving these 90MPH paintjobs! Pretty soon, you are going to start seeing them on Bajas and Fountains. Wait, what?

(BTW, I will have a Half or Full 90 on my Mini-Hawk at some point; however it will be the 30MPH version. At least it's derived from a Cigarette.)

airshares; the boat looks great!!!

Doug 07-20-2013 10:30 AM

I think I remember seeing pics of that boat around for a long time. Always liked the paint job very rare. Didn't they call it ( Bat Out of Hell ) ? Good luck on your new ride and projects.

Looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!' That's exactly how we would have painted ours if we were to keep it... Great choice.... Enjoy

Harvey 07-20-2013 07:45 PM

Great project. Where did you get your side vents for the engine compartment? Are the made of fiberglass are plastic? I want to replace the long side vents on mine this winter.

airshares 07-21-2013 12:34 AM

The side vents were stock on the boat when I bought it. They were removed for paint.

mmb 07-21-2013 04:54 PM

Looks real good!! Lets see some more pics!!

MF 07-22-2013 03:52 PM
