Thanks for the kind words Kurt, that means a lot coming from a guy that owns the badest Mystique ever. You have ridden in the my boat before me:lolhit:, I never had the this boat on the water, bought it and took it apart, it has come a long way, hope to use it this coming year, but changed a lot of things, and everyone knows what happens when you start changing things, that usually means a lot of bugs to work out, unless I get real lucky and everything works together without an issue....

Hey I just stumbled upon your restore last night. That thing is unbelievable Most Mystique's I wouldn't even give a 1st glance to but yours just does it for me and the yellow 90 is the best one out there in my book
Congratulations on finishing a long hard road on it . Hope you have a ball on it and reap your well deserved rewards on it. |

Well its been almost a year since I posted on this thread, didn't get a chance to work on the project much last year, but been working on the boat as much is can since May, and thanks to my good friend Blue Thunder who has keep me motivated, and is my self proclaimed project manager, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had a few set backs, throughout the summer, and the major one was with the AFR heads, and I'm not going to knock AFR because I think there great heads, if its anybody's fault its mine for not reading the directions sent with the heads. But I do want to thank Full Force for his head thread, it got me to think about checking mine, and I'm glad I did the guides were super tight, and probably would have ended up like his did with me running open cooling, after that set back been moving forward. hope to fire it in the next week or so... here some pics of what's been going on...the first pic of the motors is pre head work. I will post more pics of the progress, it is at the point the motors are in and the drives are on...

Getting the bilge ready for the new power, innercooler lines, bilge pump hoses, I just hope they fit, don't have nearly the room in the bilge to fit these things, I'm just worried with the HP coupler and the blower pulley are we going to get them in.. I'm going to get a little head of myself here, but this is what I'm working on today. I have no room on my transom or the stringers to mount the shift cable brackets, and with the whipples there's not enough room between the blower throttle cable mount, and the shift cable bracket, that mount to the CMI etops. So I had to do a little modifications to the plate that holds the shift cable bracket, that mounts to the header, so here's what I did to give me just enough room... I really don't like the brackets mounted to the headers but when you don't have the room, you got to do what you got to do. I stepped the plate over 3/8 of an inch, and moved it up and front about a 1/4 of an inch, it gives me just enough room for the throttle cable to clear, and I can retain the same mounting points. Maybe this can help someone on there project..

Well here are some pics after I got the motors loaded on the truck, they went for little ride with the boat to BTs house, where we spent 2 hours just trying to get the boat down the driveway, before we even got the chance to get cut and bruised up trying to wedge the motors in that tight space they call the bilge. Blue Thunder, and BT jr. are in the pics he has been great help and a great friend throughout the build....

This is probably a stupid question, but how did you lower them into the bildge. The arm on the engine hoist would hit the boat before they are in. I didn't see anything for lowering just the motor on there. I ask because I usually use my chain block I have set up in my garage ceiling. My VIP was to high to pull the boat forward with the motor above it. I called my buddy with his boom tow truck and right out with no issues. When it was time to put it back it was just as simple. It only took 20 minutes each time with the tow truck.

Boat looks awesome, very high attention to detail.
It is tough using a cherry picker to install engines in a deep vee. Pulling them isn't too bad but install is a pain. I built a somewhat modified cherry picker to use, but I ended up using a chain fall with it as well, made life so much easier to make those quarter inch up and down movements to get everything bolted in. Not trying to jack your thread but I'll stick a pick in, like you said in case it helps somebody else out in the future. One thing to keep in mind is that is a lot of iron up in the air, I only ever used it very level concrete and once the engine was up I moved the boat under the engine, never moved the hoist with the engine dangling. I was afraid it would start swinging and topple over. It did the job, I think I pulled and installed 2 different engines about a half dozen times, but I dismantled it after I was done and intend to build an A-frame. http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/a...pscedc6970.jpg |
Ever knew how much room the intertransome plates took up till we mounted one to make sure everything was alined right and would work with the ones we had made with out all the extra bs on them.

The Bullet is looking great Casey, I did the same thing with my plastic big block, but I didn't have the pulleys and the drive coupler on, and I wasn't thinking about that (which I should have been) I was worried about the bigger oil pans clearing the stingers and if the blowers were under the hatch.. |
Do you have any more progress pics or final install pics?

Some day I will own a boat where I can do a spark plug check on the inside ports without having to pull a motor! :( http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...b/078482c6.jpg |

There are a lot of people that have no idea of the challenges involved with working on a boat that has BBC's shoe horned into the bilge, I feel your pain man! Now you know why I am building the engine chassis, I need to be able to pop an engine out and in easily! What is the center to center spacing on your setup? 34"?
