Today's update. Interesting, they use a dummy engine to make sure everything fits as planned.

All right Cigarette brothers, time to get this thread fired back up. Spent today at the factory and pleased to report Project X is coming along nicely. Three weeks out from delivery and lots going on.

Couple more from yesterday

Awesome man. Really impressive how tightly packaged the engines are. Makes my boat look like dinosaur technology. Are you planning to come up to Erie at all?

Yes, the 1100's come with a choice of #6's or M8's. My understanding is Mercury only offers the 1100 / 6 package with the 1:50 gears to protect the drive. The M8 gives you gear ratio choices and a much stronger bottom end. In addition, the M8 is 2" shorter which allows the engines to be mounted lower in the boat, this helps the CG. There have been no issues that I know of with the new generation M8. They have also redesigned the M8 lower to make it more hydrodynamic. Honestly, I like the look of the 6 drive much better.
In general, I believe the 1100 / 6 package performs great. We choose the M8 for gear options and acceleration. My information source is Bud at Cigarette and Mercury Racing consider both subject matter experts. |

Wow, what size Garmin were they able to stuff in there???

They are Garmin 8212's 12" screens. Gotta be honest, I was a little concerned about the dash without the sprawling analog gauge look. Felt the dash was one of the best features of our 2011 39 TG.
I'm sure moving to the digital world has it's benefits but it will take some getting use to. Picture of our 39 dash: |
^^^^ LOTS OF BLING! Gonna be a sweeeet ride. Is there a delivery date? Also, what is the projected speed?

May 1st is delivery. Any speed numbers would be speculation so trying to manage my expectations if you know what I mean.

Myrick is now our shop manager. He has lots of experience in running and setting boats up to achieve maximum performance, not just top end but all around performance..... I know you know this, just making it clear for everybody else.
I was in the boat with him, all I can say is it's a BEAST!! Pulls hard and handles amazing. Turns great for a big stepped bottom boat. The boat felt completely stable at that speed, him and I both agreed it could go another 10-15mph faster, maybe more, before it would feel even remotely scary. I'm sure you will be impressed when you get your boat! It will be worth the wait and just in time for summer!! :) |
