rub rail screws
#1
I miss placed a few of my rub rail screws, and bought some replacements a the local hardware store, they keep rusting, I pulled one the original screws out, and one of the replacements, the replacements are magnetic the original ones are not, and every hardware store I check there stainless screws are magnetic. my question is does anybody know were I can get the right screws, and what grade stainless they are, they look like there #8x3/4" screws. thanks any help would be great...

Stainless can still be magnetic if its manipulated enough during the machining process of making the parts! Easier thing to do is to passivate the screws and they will not rust anymore. The rust is just iron particles on the surface of the raw stainless parts that weren't machined. Some of our 316 stainless pumps we make rust on the raw cast parts even after machining them...never on the machined parts.....so we dip them in a solution of nitric acid for about 10-15min....never rusts again... we use this stuff:
