Another off the wall question about the bullets --- probably any cig --- batteries

I'm looking at the 2 perko switches for the bullet. When I bought the boat the original owner said to leave it on battery 1 for each switch. In doing so, the port switch on battery 1 would go to the port battery (battery closest to the stern). Then by selecting battery 1 on the starboard switch, it would actually select the starboard battery (battery furthest from the stern) and not the port battery. Is that how Cig wired them? Even though you are selecting battery 1 on both switches, it actually keeps the identified side (port vs starboard) on different batteries? I was trying to look at the wiring diagram, but it didn't really answer my question.

That is correct. I traced the cables when I was redoing my interior. The #1 battery for each engine goes to the primary battery for that engine. So if you want to run both engines on the same battery, one switch needs to be on 1 the other on 2.

Most cigs I have worked on have a relay at the batteries that ties both batteries together during a start. Thereby parallel, that's why the start toggle switch is two pole. One pole to start relay at rear of engine, and one pole to paralleling relay at batteries. Both battery switches should be on 1. So alternators are not in conflict. With switches in both, if one battery gets low, both batteries get low, as the bad one will drain the good one down. Unless there are battery isolators in place, cig did not use isolators in them in the 90s. With bat switches in both, which battery is volt meter displaying? port or starboard?

Sorry I was speaking of old, heavy, blower motor, straight bottom, slow, big power, big drive, cigs. But enough said, this is from the original owners manual for my boat, you guys do it as you please.
