Transom ideas .

Redoing the transom, looking for ideas while this $hit is apart .

So far my plan is :
1. Remount tabs horizontal.
2. repaint drives/boxes/gimbals etc etc . Or maybe powdercoat ?(not the drives)
3. polish and ceracoat clear all the stainless
4. more underwater lights
5, powdercoat or paint swim platform.
6. repaint transom.
7. inside of transom paint black along with the entire bilge floor.
8. smooth the sides of bilge if cost is right
9. New pickups
8. repowdercoat exhaust and manifolds
9. Move transom assemblies lower 1-2" so I don`t have to use spacers.
?????

Rick do you have boxes? I got this thing set up pretty good, no hop . I`d hate to change that up and make it worse.
The notch does not look so easy to do . My guy is good but also busy, not sure if he`d be up for it .
Best manners are about 2-2.5" below bottom. Right now I`m bout an inch down, my boxes are adjustable fyi. 3" either way in total.

Wow what a difference a month makes,
But why paint the bilge black? I know it hides leaks but your whole boat looks great updated and that would go back to looking old school.
Plus the white just made the motors look so much better. yes harder to keep clean but sure looks better plus reflects better with some led lights in the compartment

IGetWet 10-25-2021 06:13 PM

#6s? That’d blow the budget thing outta the water but it’d really clean up the hydraulics and lines etc. I agree with above on white vs black bilge. Black almost hides too much.

ICDEDPPL 10-25-2021 06:18 PM

Hmm I see your point but with my OCD the floor is a no brainer and i was just thinking of doing the inside of the transom black , white sides.
I also thought about doing the exhaust tails in white

I do have a buyer for my 5`s . I read thru that #5 to #6 conversion thread and it seems like a ton of work and lots of trouble and it took those guys over a year if I recall.
After I read thru that I changed my mind .

Its not that big of a deal the hardest part is the motor mounts and that's not that hard. The motors move back in the boat you will need new transmissions unless you find boxes for the 6s. We did a number 3 boat to Sixes a few years ago and we didn't even have to plug the hole transom.

I vote Full Stagger.

White bilge, black or red pipes

Hi Dan , I do not run boxes with my 5 drives . I spoke to Phil Lipscutz regarding the size of the notch and drive height . He was very helpful and great to talk to . I did the notch to avoid boxes . Going from the 3’s to the 5’s only pushed the motors forward about an inch . Mine are still plug ins .
I found it planes easier . I can’t disagree if it is not broken don’t fix it . If you the six drive route without boxes you may want to consider it . Always a good idea to chat with Phil he is a wealth of cigarette info . If you do decide to go that route feel free to reach. It’s a pain in ass job but not difficult . Cheers Rick G .

6's on boxes will be driveline just like your setup now. You will most likely be able to avoid:

1. Moving engines
2. Modifying engine mounts
3. Doing any glass work on the transom

What if you did the bilge to match your 90mph paint job? Just continue that theme in the bilge. Just a thought and would definitely be different.

BDiggity 10-26-2021 01:21 PM

Remove old air vents for something more flush in design

Sydwayz 10-26-2021 01:42 PM

Medium Grey bilge: will show leaks, but you don't have to worry about getting any stains out.
Black transom: won't show the scum line and soot, a bit easier to keep/appear clean without getting into every single nook and cranny each time.

Have Yankey make you some vents.

I called Phil one time and he couldn`t believe I had SSM drives on the boat , they are only for racing and I should get rid of them. Your experience seems to be better .I have boxes so I`m going to leave it alone.

That would be helpful. Would I need new transmissions ? What`s in a #6 box?

ths boat could be parted out and I got myself some drives.
Anyone know how much heavier a 6 is vs #5?

ICDEDPPL 10-26-2021 04:27 PM

Sydways, that guy is super busy . I had a bunch of things I needed and after 6 month I gave up waiting .

Dan, if you want vents like I had made, I can put you in contact with the guy. Could do custom "Carpe Diem" die cut too.

While those are bad ass , I like those old school vents for some reason.
I gotta leave something old school on this thing :drink:

Ah! I was thinking you were looking to custom make some.

Have you checked Eddie Marine. I think they have that style.

What am I getting from Eddie Marine? My vents are fine lol

Lets get back to the transom.
Talked to a guy with a flat deck who converted to 6s and "it`s the best thing I ever did"
Dammit I did not wanna hear that ($$$$$)

Rick G 10-26-2021 08:42 PM

Hi Dan , I went from the No 3’s to the No 5’s and boat ran better and faster. Handling improved even around the dock go figure . I agree given you have boxes the notch may be less effective . You may want to reach out to Gary Kolofski he also put a notch in his flat deck and ran it on boxes .
i get the No 6 argument but if they are not dry sump I am not sure how much faster the boat will be given additional weight and parasitic drag . I painted my transom black best thing I ever did . I am a fan of a white bilge way more to keep clean but I like the look better . In any event good luck with the project I know you will kill it . Cheers RG.

Rick G 10-26-2021 08:55 PM

Dan go figure Gary’s old flat deck is in the classifieds

LOL I thought you said you were trying to get custom ones made from Skydwayz guy.

never mind…carry on. :picard1: :lolhit:

Rick G 10-27-2021 10:09 AM

Hey Dan , you want to chat with the guy selling the staggered flat deck in the classifiieds it has number but they look to be wet sumps . RG .

Interceptor 10-27-2021 10:10 AM

Dan,
Curious as to what performance gain you expect ? Would it be in overall boat handling or top speed or both ?

Wildman_grafix 10-27-2021 10:28 AM

Only thing I can add is that I went with white sides but red in the floor. Like you said white sucks but at least red you have a chance with Red and it would match the boat.

No your transmissions will work just fine. There is nothing in the number 6 box it just moves the drive back the gimbal has a drive line flange on it. the Number 6 drive can be run a lot higher then the number 5 because of the cav plate. It helps get on plane easer Regards Dan

12meter joe 10-27-2021 06:54 PM

Paint everything black. And then change the name to BLM. Hope that helps

Stuckonstupid 10-27-2021 07:54 PM

..

offshorexcursion 10-27-2021 10:16 PM

Paint bilge to match paint theme....... Really don't think black would look good

#6 Dry Sump on boxes, you have upgraded everything on your badass boat why quit now lol!

Correct me if i`m wrong:

1. Stronger drive
2. easier to find parts
3. cleans up transom
4. more negative trim and cavitation plate, much easier to get on plane.(this should be number 1)
5. 6s are bad ass and all the cool kids have them!!

Can’t believe no one has yet to suggest filling in transom completely and tossing on a platform/bracket and hanging 4, 450’s off the back. Isn’t that what all the cool kids have today?! :lolhit::drink:

3 450s would do the trick! :champs:
