Good thing now, when you renew you can now buy a 5 year coast guard document rather then having to renew each year.

Is that through the coast guard or one of those companies that try to imitate the coast guard and charge a lot more for renewing?

No, its actually through the coast guard. If you use one of the many ghost sites, they charge you a premium. DEAL ONLY WITH THE COAST GUARD DIRECTLY.

You can see the 5 year renewal on the fees for Jan 2022. I just received my 5 year in the mail.

1 year is 26
5 year is 130
No savings, but less hassle to have a 5 year

I did the 5 year option. It take months for the paperwork to clear thru CG. Five year makes the most sense.

I renewed mine at beginning of COVID, so I’m sure that impacted the return time. Glade to hear it’s shorter now. Thanks everyone for their responses. I feel better now.

Some states don't issue boat titles so when you get a loan they have whats called a UCC. When paid off you get a copy of that. The bank will title the trailer though.

Yep...here in Kansas watercraft are not titled. Now, if you are selling a boat with a trailer, the TRAILER must be titled...go figure. Yet in Oklahoma, watercraft are titled and trailers are not. I ran into this earlier in the year when I sold my Baja 208 Islander, I had the title in hand for the boat but had lost the trailer title, and it was going to be $1200 to get a replacement trailer title...and take 4 - 6 months. Luckily the guy who bought it lives in Oklahoma.
