The owner of this boat had a 46 Rough Rider with 1200 Cobras. I also owned a 42X with 1200 Cobras. Randy stands behind his product and I don’t know anybody who he has ever just outright screwed. Does he have more used high performance parts than anybody in the country, and might they work there way into one of his engine builds, sure, but he always makes things right and stands behind his stuff.

The owner of the boat was Bill Proctor, who had all the custom work done. He owned Offshore-Performance in Grasonville MD, at the time; which rotated it's way through being a Cigarette dealer, Sonic dealer, Donzi dealer, and a few other brands, all back in the early 2000s. 302Sport is right, he did have the 46, as well Bill commissioned the one-of-a-kind center-steer lift-dash 45' Cigarette Maximus back in the day too. All three of these mentioned were his personal boats. He also ordered/built the 46' Stealth, and a few other unique Cigarettes; as well as the white/yellow 2004 Donzi ZRC with custom Cobra 750s and XRs, staggered, and even a Donzi ZSC with blue power. Offshore-Performance did all the custom rigging, specifically John Smith and Jay Meyer, both of which are still mechanics at other marine businesses now.

I don't know who painted the boat, but that person did paint a bunch of wild custom boats for Bill and his customers in the day. The "Spider Boat" was one of his most prized possessions. He didn't even keep it on a lift, as he had a private launch ramp in his backyard, and garaged it after every outing.

Harry Judge also was a part of the dealership; who had the Tony the Tiger 42' straight-bottom Cigarette for his personal boat.
Frank Marchone also was a part of the dealership who sold probably 75% of the Sonics ever built by Jay Ross, as well as when Richard Hewitt briefly owned Sonic in the mid-2000s.

Sadly, Bill Proctor, Harry Judge, and Frank Marchone have all passed on. But they were all prominent members of the old school powerboaters of the Mid-Atlantic from the 80s through the 20-teens. I knew them all well. It was Frank that sold me my first Sonic 26' Prowler and got me into this whole sport.

Yea, I will never forget going to Red Eyes in the late 80's and 90's. The hardware from these guys was just amazing. I remember staring at the massive power these boats had and someone mentioned........"yea and he has a spare set in his garage". It was different time

Pretty sure Barry Gibson, Pro Art Works of Maryland painted the Spider Cigarette for Bill Proctor. I believe he did all of the custom paint jobs for him. Details are unbelievable.

I’m blessed to be his grandson and he sadly passed away back in 2019 but my mother (Bills daughter) had it up until when she sold it about a year ago. The person that she sold it to immediately turned around and sold it to someone else. Forget the new owners name but he posts it on his Facebook frequently, brings it to poker runs, and refers to it now as “the goat”, and is a great guy. The boat was sitting in bills side garage at his house for years until the house was sold and was then stored in the old offshore performance show room. Looks just the same and bad ass as ever! I’m sure he’d be happy and proud to know it’s still making enthusiasts smile.

great post! Your gramps was highly regarded in the offshore / sport boat community.

and yes, the new owner appears to be taking great care of the boat and having a lot of fun with it! Great to see.

Those were grand times.
Bill had two daughters, Kim and Debbie right? I still keep in touch with Debbie on occasion; and you must be Kim's son.

Chuck Hunnicutt owns the boat now, and has it down in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (mouth of the Chesapeake Bay).

Yup right on the money, I’m Kim’s son! Always wish I wasn’t so young when he was in his full swing in the performance boat world because I’ve mostly only heard stories but I loved the spider boat top gun even when I was only a little kid definitely had me interested from the beginning!

Please tell Debbie that Brian Tillett said hi.

This was the 26' Sonic I bought from Bill and 'Uncle Frank' Marchone; the day I picked it up, right there at the original Offshore Performance building.
This is a core boating memory for me from early 2000 or 2001, as my Dad happened to be in town when I took delivery.
I was still wet behind the ears, literally, as this was my first boat; as I was just graduating from racing PWCs.
