Cut the hatch in the middle of the uprights, add 2 inches and you will only need to paint the sides and inside of them. The top around the emblem will not be affected. With the angle of the sides it will only be slightly more vertical adding 2 inches.

High temp duct tape. Gorilla brand preferably. Get black to blend in.

Maybe I corrected you too fast.

Did you mean flex pipe ? And it autocorrected to flex seal ? Flex pipe would work too.
