Downtime / free time had some time to mess around and rough out painting the bilge. Still lack the transom yet but just for messing around turned out well I think before and after photos attached

What did you use for materials? Taking on a project with a friend and that is one on the punch list.

This for paint and lots and lots of acetone and 3m red and green scuff pads.

spent a lot of time with dawn powerwash also! That stuff is awesome!!

Helmwurst 11-28-2023 08:01 AM

Thanks ! I been using Rust Oleum Implement paint on my house outside steel railing. That stuff rolls on great and stay nice looking for 2 years now. I also found felt rollers at Lowe's that leave a very smooth finish. almost looks sprayed on.

Engines

Me again. Got the engines torn down by the builder finally this week. That being said

we have a set of Frankenstein’s

heads are mis matched
head gaskets are wrong and mis matched
cams are mis matched
Valves/ seats are/ where not seating properly
mis matched cranks
mis matched pistons
just to name a few things.

Will have photos here tomorrow or so.

luckily no catastrophic damage has been done or can’t be machined out.

luckily they are 4 bolt main blocks lol. I will update the list as I learn and know more.

Helmwurst 12-14-2023 09:37 AM

Helmwurst 12-15-2023 09:13 AM

^^^^^^ I think you are referring to Sick Stinger. Different guy. I used him before, never had an issue.

ThirtyFiveCafe 12-29-2023 07:50 PM

I'd be sick/mad/ready to hurt someone if I tore motors down to see that. I'm glad you kept the red bilge, I'm certainly partial to mine. Good luck with the motors, boat is looking awesome! Like we mentioned on FB a few months back, I think a raft-up at LOTO next summer is in order. I don't risk running the rendezvous with original power from 1987, I can't afford to be doing motors while in the middle of building the place at the lake, but I am down to cruise around in the slop and drop anchor somewhere for the day!

im looking forward to it man!! I hope to make rendezvous this year if I’m lucky fingers crossed lol! Either way I plan on making a trip your way this summer and really looking forward to it! Hoping to see my engines back first of February maybe? I just completely restarted only thing I kept is the blocks lol.going to aluminum heads, new cranks , cams , positions blah blah blah! I’m definitely sick about it and pissed really isn’t even the word either lol! He will have his day karma sucks.

87CigCafe 01-10-2024 03:41 PM

Upgrade.

Cams have arrived finally! Still waiting on my aluminum heads then it’s go time and re assembly new cranks and all basically new everything but the blocks unfortunately! Builder is expecting to see 570+hp on the dyno same or + on torque! Hoping it will wake these girls up and get this ol Cafe moving at a respectable pace maybe! I’ll update more as we go and I know exactly my build specs are.

soon to have some 088 heads for sale and cams ( mis matched ) available for sale soon. Cheap just to get out of my way. Fingers crossed for all things good for once cause this has been a total roller coaster! Cheers!

Heads are in!

Things are starting to shape up my heads came in! Originally was going to go with AFR’s but had to switch up due to a very long wait time for some reason so I went with promaxx aluminum heads. After some homework turns out these are actually a great head! Builder has put them on another set of engines he built for a donzi recently and has awesome results! So hopefully I will to!

thank you! I’m proud of them considering where I started lol!

im about a hour south from Nashville Tennessee in a little town called Tullahoma and spend most of my time on Tim’s ford lake that’s local to me! Only a dozen or less powerboat guys out there like us kinda makes it boring at times lol!

Rhythm and Blues 02-16-2024 05:48 PM

There are few mechanical joys as euphoric as a pair of BBC powerboat engines! 🤘

Looking good. Those motors made sone pretty good power and torque. What size carb do you have on those engines? I working toward some similar power goals.

snapmorgan 04-05-2024 07:53 AM

What is the cubic inch of the new engines? I would assume 540's?

87CigCafe 04-05-2024 08:06 AM

I wish!

Holley 800’s but I need a little more carb maybe 1100’s? They couldn’t keep up as they should and could have on the dyno builder says a good carb swap I could see an additional 35-45hp maybe more? But for now I’m gonna leave them alone after everything I’ve been through with these things im just happy they are back home and built how they should have been built!

MyIsland3 04-05-2024 08:58 AM

Thank you…..

those numbers are just a standard 454 30 over?

Don’t those motors have a stroker crank?
