I feel the same way about my little CC. I can run about all day on 15 gallons but its not near as fun as an offshore.
When were you at PIB? We are just west of Davis Besse about 3 miles. We are up almost every weekend. |
Those waters look familiar!
When we had our cruiser docked in West Harbor, we also had a 20’ cuddy cabin docked there as well. Only did it for a yr but put way more mls on it than the cruiser! BTW, a cuddy in case we had too much fun at West Bay Inn!

I do have to say thou, 2+MPG, 4 hrs of running, 19" draft , 90 miles covered, 5 days never opening the hatch and one $120 fill up is pretty damn nice. I shoudl have done this second boat deal a long time ago , takes the stress off having to hurry and finish https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...74ac5b733f.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1Ng...l=DanielBaloun https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6bf13d8fc0.jpg |

Didn`t know this weekend was Christmas in July and the place got real dark and ghetto, 3 different counties had to get their Swat teams up there. Detroit trash weekend it should be called. |

Well I rebuilt one steering cylinder and bled everything which is not an easy task.
Next day the other cylinder started to leak. Had that rebuilt , day later the other drive cylinder started to leak. Good times. #1 is being an ******* right now. |

Hanging out with my man Kevin in Travers city this weekend.
The water is the clearest I have ever seen out of all the places we`ve been. Amazing! Boat runs great , was doing some tuning still, not there yet with fuel tables. Keeping it under 5K rpm , water pressure too high , need to adjust pickup even higher . Getting some actual seat time was nice, I`m finding out the 6s do not need much trim at all. Raise em a bit from tucked after getting on plane and she takes off like there was a parachute back there . playing with tabs..(horizontal is the way to go for sure, now they actually do something instead of putting a hole in the water ) to find the sweet spot . IAT`s are 20* cooler with one stage just for intercooler. Oil temps staying nice and even with extra cooler. Boost is way down with same pulleys as last year, 5K and almost no boost ? Love it . can`t wait to get her dialed in . She has some nice accelaration now . https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...82b94c71ae.jpg Thats 9' deep Thats https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9a592aaabb.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b0e9c5f8bb.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bb4c9005d2.jpg That pic is 9' deep water |

Is that a banana in your pocket? Or was you just happy to be at the helm! Looks and sounds fan freaking tastic!!!

She`s got some get up and go .. still making sure fuel tables are good but a quick stab of the throttles she gets to 92mph pretty quick with drives level .. now Im running out of prop.
#5s had to be trimmed to the moon and it would take some time to get there . |

7psi and 614lbs/hr at 6K
That should be around 1200hp. I like that with 7lbs. |
Lower boost, less restriction in heads and intake. Lower IAT too, sounds good. Gas engines seems to be pretty worse about BSFC, your engine take 0,51lbs/hp/h, calculations for my Fountain diesel engine is under 0,3lbs/hp/h. So Transmash should make 1200hp only 336lbs/h fuel consumption, thats pretty interesting because fuel is now damn expensive.

I can appreciate that...but there is much more to BSFC than pocket book. But really...maybe they haven't done the math lately. $8 USG for 91 in BC atm. BSFC from efficiency and range is a valid factor. Ksalmine, transmash is an interesting engine for sure. You mentioned you opted to not go with turbines from their poor BSFC. I remember looking into some turbines a while back, and was surprised to see some really low 0.4 level BSFCs. The blower fed BBCs are not always 0.5...they are often in the low 0.4s...and sometimes lower. Most of those numbers are WOT, so cruise may even have better numbers. Some are in the 0.6 area. Dan, really nice to see the results of dedicated effort through the many pitfalls and Mr. Murphy tagging along the way. Nice to see the 6s get you up quick. You figure that is from the leverage of the props farther back? How are the ventilation tubes working out? With more pitch, maybe the 100mph is on the horizon. Well done. |
Thanx!
The 6`s have more negative trim and the cavitation plate helps get it on plane faster and at lower rpm and Im sure 4' back helps. The 5`s used to blow out at 1800rpm, these will stick till about 2500rpm and it almost seems like it`ll get on plane but then they do blow out .. The ventilations tubes open wouldn`t let me get on plane, just kept blowing out and catching , repeat . I thought this description from Teague sounded so good and I had higher hopes at easier shifting and less stress on the drives when reentering water but it has not worked out like that In pleasure applications, the aerators take the load off of the props when maneuvering around docks, and help to prevent engine stalling when engines are shifted into gear. In race conditions, aerators improve throttle response coming out of corners or after hitting down on a big wave by instantly relieving the load off of the propellers. I would assume they are more massive internally and trying to sling 5 gallons of cold oil isn`t probably helping. I blocked off the aerators but kept the tubes , I like the way they look .:D The drives staying cooler than the 5s.also . I have a pair of 5 blades to try next . https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...28550bbfbf.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f2f2f5affd.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...75719ce40a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a049471d44.jpg |
4 blade and lots of pitch with the 1.5 ratio, you think has a factor in the blow outs?
Here's hoping the 5 blades lock up better. Good reminder on the rpm drop on gear engagement. Does the idle air control kick in and help out? Or it's enough of a shock to stall it out unless base idle high enough? |
The props need to let loose to get on plane cleavers aren`t designed to grab like a blowvo prop so that`s not an issue.
I have a dual IAC and this year I took out the filter which necked down to 1/2" opening and upsized one of the -6lines to -10 to get more air flow .helped a bit . It`s mostly timing tuning, when I started Id put the engine in drive and it was like a off switch, the engine would die immediately , IAC didn`t have enough time to even react. Now it`ll dip to 300/400rpm and recover but it seems to like very little timming at idle and higher timming in the cells where its in gear . The other engine is opposite , the 2 tunes are very different even thou they are the same exact combo . |

All while making sure it doesn't lean out...or go hog rich and fuel load the rings. |

Interesting .... can I see the RPM`s at the bottom?
So when you shift and it falls below a certain rpm it adds timming is that the jist? I tune the individual cells as I see the bubble travel from neutral to in gear . I have a custom IAC table that seems to work well also but my spark table for PORT looks like a mess but its the only way I could make it not die. starboard: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...bad3ec8f8d.jpg PORT: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...45f5befe9c.jpg IAC: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0737d62a0f.jpg |
Panther :
What is your take on the MAPand TPS enrichment tables. They seems to be adding or subtracting too much fuel when accelerating and decelarating. My RoC blanking was low (2-4) so I think there was too much 'action' I went to 9 dummy that down but I feel in a boat we really don`t need all those tables. I zeroed out all the MAP AE and handicapped the TPS enrichment.. I`ll see how it goes this weekend. |
Dan, those tables for Port and Stbd are quite a bit different as you mentioned.
One of the massive benefits of digital ignition, is giving more than all in RPM advance at idle, cruise and low load, lean conditions. Dynamic compression is super low with lots of vacuum, and takes way longer for combustion to occur. I'm stoked to get the Daytona Sensor system for my carbed blowers. |

I don't like having the main table all jacked up with the timing in situations like this since it will be adding that timing while cranking and first starting. I want my tables smooth and then fine tune with a custom table to make it work. That's what works for me. |

Your deceleration enleanment issue is probably in your main table it I had to guess and it happens to quickly for auto tune to correct it and it might need to be smoothed. OR, you might need to turn the deceleration enleanment off all together. Something you have to figure out what's the right strategy for your tune. It kinda sounds like the tune is a little jacked up to be honest if it's doing all that. In the end I have no way of knowing what's really going on with your engines without seeing it realtime and analyzing your tune. Not something I'd be willing to speculate on online or from a far. |
Door county, Wisconsin is beautiful place , spent our time at a private island.. really peaceful and scenic. Sister Bay Marina, then took the kids out Labor day .

I see validity in both. I see the need MAP for sudden changes in load without the TPS changing. EG, you hit a wave which slows the boat and RPM down but you didn't change the throttle or you bark the drives in a wave which changed load (MAP). TPS is pretty straight forward I feel. I have blanking in the 6 range for TPS and 7 for MAP.

Pissing me off . Hard to try and figure it out on my own, be nice to have someone on the laptop while I drive the boat ... data logs aren`t giving me a clue why the main table calls for a certain amount of fuel but it swings like crazy on decel. I need a day just to tune, hard to do when everyone wants to go boating but over everything else is fine. Cold starts , idle, shifting .. all good now .. just a little more tuning and she`ll be good to go imop |
Very cool, Dan. Been about a decade since we were up in Door County (stayed in Ephraim) and hit all the local spots including Sister Bay. It is beautiful up there. Had to look up that island and that is cool that you can stay on it.

Spent my honeymoon up there, many years ago. Have not been back there in several years. It is absolutely amazing country side.

Still having issues with this, can`t seem to figure it out .. if I throttle the engine will go lean and bog when I come off plane it`ll go 10afrs and then swing to 16-20 and sometimes the starboard will die.

I finally had a day just do only tunning and prop testing and got a lot accomplished and fixed
.The issues were in the main table not in the any accelaration Enrichment. I cleaned a lot of it up . Tried some new props and got real close to my number thou.:evilb: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b2ea43e836.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...3018d1bff6.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f7b20bf64e.jpg |
that was with 29 pitch 5 blades .
I have another set 32 picth 4 blades that could probably get me closer to that century mark. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e603d423ee.jpg |
Pull those mufflers off!!! Lol
looking good Dan! Glad to see you guys back in the water. |
Ill be runnin in water like that in a couple weeks, instead of getting the chit beat out you on loto, glad it all came together :ernaehrung004:

Are the tables close to the same for each engine now?
Doesn't get closer to 100 than that... How does the hull feel up there? |
