In our area the E85 gas pumps say "contains 70-75% ethanol" ( or close to that ) They lower the alcohol content for winter so I wonder if I got the E85 winter mix.
The GM flex fuel sensor should be pretty accurate .. I hope!! |
What did you do in terms of the tanks for winter storage being you had a decent alcohol content in them?
|
I`m on E in both tanks after that run , but I also added Marvel mystery oil and Amsoil Ethanol treatment at the launch before taking it out for the season.
I have a few bottles filled with 33% ethanol. One is open to atmosphere One is closed. One is treated with the Amsoil One is treated with the another ethanol stabilizer available locally. They`ve been sitting around for a few months .. it`ll be interesting what happenes 6 months from now. |
nice test to do ! curious to see the end results !
|
Thats what i always do -Burn that chit up and start fresh in the spring.
Good work man. |

Honestly, for the money you have invested, I would remove the injectors and pickle them for the winter. If mine car will be down for extended time, I have started doing this. I bought a fuel injector flow/ test machine. It was cheap, and it's nice to see the flow on the injectors, and you can flush all the e85 out. When your done cycle the injectors with some light weight oil. I have pulled the injectors out of every car in my family and cleaned and flowed them all. I even pulled the 2 tiny injectors out of my 20hp outboard and flowed and pickled them for the season. After I made 2 adapters for them because they were so small. |
Interesting .. you run pure E85 thou.
What alcohol lube are you running ? Marvel has some good lubricity |
where did you get the injector testor/cleaner

What alcohol lube are you running ? Marvel has some good lubricity Alcohol doesn't have any/much lubricating properties. Gasoline does. The more gas, the more lube. The lube helps the injectors and fuel pump. I know Marvel is good, just don't know how it is with alcohol. Don't want to take any chances and find out lol. The lube below mixes well and doesn't separate in the fuel. Most will say 60% ethanol will give you very good detonation resistance. I personally start pulling boost and timing under 70%. I'm not afraid of running 30lbs of boost on E70 (9:1 compression). This is the lube I have been running for 15 years. It used to be around $9-10 a bottle. THANKS JOE!!! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/plu-19769-37 People also say Lucas ethanol lube works well. I was going to try that when my stock runs low. |

This machine can not be compared to the $10k machines. I have had good success with the one I posted. Just keep in mind it is designed for stock size fuel injectors. It can not keep up with larger injectors and the Fuel Pressure will drop/pulse. Over this winter I am going to install a larger pump/lines/fuel rail/regulator. I run 210lb injectors and flow them 1 at a time right now. I am hoping I will be able to run 4 (or at least 2) at a time with the new setup. It is very interesting to see how each injector flows. The larger injectors have a much larger variance on the lower pw's. Even the $2000 matched Injector Dynamic injectors were only match at 3ms and above. I was told by Injector Dynamics if they tried to match them any lower, they would never get a matched set across the ms range. I can definitely see that when I flow them. I can make individual cylinder adjustments over rpm/load. Helps trying to even them out especially at low duty cycle. |

We delivered less than 3% variability and also found that measurement capability and repeatability made taking that number lower quite challenging. Densos, which had a machined main body, could beat our deep drawn body injectors by a little. I think the magnetic circuit performance was probably a variable on repeatability. This was was for production low pressure ev14 port injectors from 15-20 years ago. Not sure where they are now. Probably nothing that did much more than 50hp/cyl size wise. |
Amazing effort and fairly unparalleled attention to detail Dan, it’s been a while since I checked in. At one point you were considering selling and going to a cruiser; I think everyone is thankful you stayed on this path. I think you set the bar for the benchmark of Flatdeck restomods! Hell of a nice job. Have a good Thanksgiving.
PS, tattoos on pretty ladies make me feel kinda funny like when I use to climb the rope in gym class… |
This has to be one of my favorite builds. I followed it on the Flat Decks page on facebook but there is some awesome info on here. The boat looks perfect and hitting the 100 mph milestone is awesome. Not sure if it was talked about or not but i wonder how much benefit a notched transom would get you. Although I'm sure you'd hate to cut the back of the boat up just like I would. Regardless super impressive and seems like you're enjoying the hell out of it. Congrats!
|
A notch is a lot work but doable. I did it to my 1985 Kevlar flat deck. There is
a thread on here called How to put a notch in a flat deck if I remember correctly. I did it a number of years age. Rick G |
Rick, I miss you buddy , where you been!?
Nick, thank you , I never really put a whole lot of info on there .. Correct me if I`m wrong but the purpose of a notch is to get the drives into some clean water and to be able to raise the drives? I`m 4' away from the transom, my drives have plenty of fresha water lol . I don`t think a notch would do much except a shorter running surface. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2079918d04.jpg My drives and garbage motors. |

I think you're right about the notch and to be honest for the amount of work it would be I doubt it would be beneficial. Im just going off of what the 41 apache hull design is like. Although the one we run with staggered 1250s and #6s only runs in the low 100s maybe 110 on a good day with some chop, and thats a 6 pack boat with no real cabin. These hulls were more meant to take a beating at 90 than hit triple digits. |
Hi Dan as always your ride looks amazing. When are you coming to Canada for a visit Didn’t run the flat deck this year lost my mother this
his past May and before I knew it the summer was over. Dan is right though with the sixes on those big boxes a notch would serve little benefit. Back in the hay day even most of the apaches ran number 3 or 3A drives where the notch was beneficial given little set back. I put the notch in so as to run number 5 drives without boxes. Cheers RG |
Im sorry to hear that Rick, my condolences.
I`m sure I will be in Put in Bay sometimes next year and I can cross over . I was going to hook up with Jay last year .. If I recall he was at Pelee island.. not a far drive. |
Dan sounds like a plan . Let’s stay in touch. RG .

Not sure how $hit breaks just sitting but I guess the drive and helmet has to come off to get to the other end of the hose.:hitfan:

|
Ya that thing belongs on a truck bed but it works so good! I`m open to suggestions
|
I've been needing one in my boat since I bought it....hit the go stick and everything on the bed is now on the floor hahaha
The ole lady has a stretchy net deal in the back of her Yukon so groceries don't fly all over...its all black and is more like stretchy cord that a net...I think she got it on amazon. Was planning on one of those whenever I get around to getting mine back on the water  |
I had that black stretch one , Imagine a baloon thats about to pop. IT would be full of stuff and stretched to the max , it didn`t last long
