Fastest Cafe

What is the fastest anyone has gotten a Cafe? How fast were the early Cafe's with 540/575 Hawk engines?

BLee 12-09-2003 06:39 PM

That one that was for sale recently with twin 1000's is the most hp I've seen in one. I would assume it hauls ass for a Cafe.

stecz20 12-09-2003 07:39 PM

is that the one with the flag paint job. if it is the same nicest cafe i have ever seen..mine has 572 merlins, 650 hp per side. fastest i saw was 80 on the gps. norm high 70's..

Offshoreracr 12-09-2003 08:03 PM

stecz, what drives, gears and props are you running. How many rpm's are you turning your engines?

stecz20 12-09-2003 08:19 PM

thats the problem, old trs drives. engines are new on the dyno 650, so in the water i would say i get 600 hp each. rpm's i was not driving ill ask my bro he was driving. boat was screaming. im not looking to go 90, not yet and not in this boat. if you really want to know what i got ill find out. four blade stainless props, dont know the pitch. like i said the trs drives kill me, old and heavy. shes got some good power so she moves great. if it hits 70 or over im happy. if she hits mid 70s very happy. if it ever comes where i see 80 again, f---ing great, if not im happy with the power in my rig..if your really in terested in the gearing and such, ill find out.

GLH 12-09-2003 08:39 PM

At 650HP with th weight of our Cafes your better with TRS than Bravos, your losing some in the tranny but your not loosing the Drives.

Cignificant 12-09-2003 08:45 PM

There was a guy on this board a few years ago that said he had his in the 90's. Wouldn't tell the HP, but said he had boxes and Bravos.

The best I've seen from mine is 82.3gps.

502's with B&M 250 blowers at 4lb of boost. Sorry, I don't know HP, but I've been told I should be in the 625-650 range. Bravo drives spinning non-labbed 30p B1 props at 5600. Cool day, by myself, 1/2 tank of gas, boat full of gear and beer.

Cignificant 12-09-2003 08:47 PM

(for GLH).. and in two years with this set up I've never hosed a drive...

Where's the wood - I need to start knocking!!!!

Offshoreracr 12-09-2003 08:49 PM

I am trying to figure out how much prop I can spin. I am running 557's with about the same HP as you. SSM #3's with big prop shafts and 1.62 gears. The Props I have now are 4 blade 17x24. It ran 72 on GPS, but hit the rev limiters at 5450 rpm's real fast. The boat came from Cig with #3 drives and 575HP. I was also wondering how fast a Cafe with that package ran from the factory.

stecz20 12-09-2003 08:51 PM

hey cignificant havent seen you around in a while...im looking toget rid of the trs drives maybe get #3s im not really sure what work has been done to them. it seems just time to update, not for the speed im fine over 70 but they just seem old.

Offshoreracr 12-09-2003 08:54 PM

stecz, if you go from a TRS to a SSM you will need to raise the whole motor and drive setup 3" to make it run right. It is a pretty big job.

Offshoreracr 12-09-2003 08:56 PM

Steve, have you torn your boat apart to paint it yet?
Tommy

stecz20 12-09-2003 08:58 PM

i know i have talked a little with tres about it. im not really sure what to do. ive put up a thread about it, no one is really responding to me. tres has doen all the wrok to my rig so im not worried. but would like to start talking to him with my own ideas, instead of having no idea. what would you do?

Offshoreracr 12-09-2003 09:05 PM

Stay with the TRS drives for now. They are a little slower but hold up well. I also prefer the way a trans. shifts but that is my personal preference.

stecz20 12-09-2003 09:07 PM

what do you have going on in your cafe racer.got any pics

I bought the hull last easter and finally got it in the water in Oct. Installed the power out of my old boat that caught on fire. Hence my avatar. Still not done but at least it is running. Had the upholestry redone and will replace the gauges this winter. Hope to paint it next year. I want to ride at least one whole summer.

Electrical short. We had been out on a rough day, put it on the trailer. Stopped for lunch 45 minutes later the waitress said the boat in the parking lot is on fire. The insurance did pay off and I bought the boat back to keep the power and drives I put in the Cafe. The boat was an old Coyote 34R race boat.

I think this is the cafe cigracer 38 is talking about

Cafe with 1000's & SSM 3's

I would imagine this has got to be the fastest cafe I have ever heard of. With that horsepower I would imagine it doesn't have trouble breaking the triple digit barrier. For that kind of coin I'd be looking for an updated topgun though, but it is a sweet looking Cafe racer.

stecz20 12-10-2003 12:17 AM

yeah your right, id opt for a gun with all that money. i really like the cafe racer that is in oso classifieds. flag paint with 800s. real nice package. the rig with 1000s still have to do some work in the birth and the dash. i think he is asking way too much. this is why its a tough call to dump so much money in a cafe racer. gun i would, but cafe racer dont think so. i dont think ill ever get rid of my rig, id like to see me with a gun and my bro with the cafe racer. maybe next xmas....

Sean 12-10-2003 10:27 AM

we're still dialing my ride in, but last we ran it with 540s(not sure of the hp, im guessing 550-600) we got 69.5 mph out of it. spinning 26" bravo 1 props on those old TRS drives...

hope to see low to mid 70's when we're done.

Life is busy these days - I'm painting the Cafe - so I don't post as much as I used to.

While we're on the subject of Cafe's - does anyone have strainers installed, and if so where did you put them? Here's a pic of my engine compartment..

That's not my boat, it's a friends.

The pic here WAS my boat up until a couple of months ago.

stecz20 12-11-2003 07:52 PM

THATS A NICE RIG, WHAT DO YA HAVE FOR POWER?

stecz20 12-12-2003 02:18 AM

HOW COULD I FORGET YOU BOUGHT THAT CRAZY GUN. GREAT RIG AS WELL. I KNOW YOUR GOING TO TEAR IT UP THIS YEAR WIT THAT BABY. GOOD LUCK WITH IT. YOULL BE THE POKER RUN KING..........

dlbCheckmate 12-13-2003 09:52 AM

stecz20, nice ride. I lusted after that boat when tres had it for sale. How are the motors ? I think it was a pretty good deal, but I am bit suprised at the top end speed with that power.

stecz20 12-13-2003 11:49 AM

DLBCHECKMATE, TO BE HONEST I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW FAST IT CAN GO. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE RIG IT WAS OCTOBER. I HAD THE BOAT OUT TWICE. WE DID NOT REALLY PUSH IT. I ASKED MY BRO THE OTHER NITE WHAT THE RPMS WERE AT WHEN I SAW IT HIT 80, HE SAID LIKE 5100. HE SAID IT FELT LIKE IT HAD MORE IN IT, BUT WHO KNOWS. YOUR RITE WITH THAT POWER IT SHOULD GET OVER 80 ALL THE TIME, 90 IM NOT SO SURE ABOUT. IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE IF I GOT THOSES BABIES BLOWN. THAT IS NOT IN THE PLANS FOR NOW. YOUR RIGHT ABOUT BEING A SWEET DEAL, THE GUY THAT HAD IT POURED MONEY INTO IT. 2002 MERLINS, WORK DONE ON THE DRIVES, WHICH I JUST FOUND OUT THE OTHER DAY. I HAVE FILE ON THE BOAT 3 INCHES THICK. ITS GREAT TO SEE WHAT WAS DONE TO THE BOAT SINCE IT WAS NEW. THE BOAT IS MINT. ITS BREAKING MY HEART THAT IS HAS TO BE OUT IN THE COLD, FIRST YEAR THAT ITS OUT IN THE WEATHER. WHEN I FIND OUT THE TOP END I WILL DEFINITELY POST IT. WHY WHAT DID YOU THINK THE RIG WOULD BE IN THE 90S. WITH THAT POWER. I THINK IT WOULD NEED SOME BAD ASS BLOWERS FOR THAT, SPEED.

caferacer 12-13-2003 02:08 PM

I have a 1987 with 650 hp to bravo`s that runs a solid 80 mph. I cant imagine the trs to be a better setup. I totally re-rigged my boat, and would think that the x dimension for the trs is alot more conservative(deeper) My boat rides high with the weight on the transom. I also used alot of parts for my rebuild from a Hustler that i could not sell: drives, gimbles, steering, guages. I bought my boat with no power and no drives.
