Has anybody weighed their 28SS to know absolutely how heavy these things are? I'm looking at a couple of them and am concerned about towing.

How heavy are these things with twin smallblocks?

I have understood around 6500# plus trailer.

I tow mine with a 3/4 ton Dodge with a cummins. It will roll 70 MPH down the road all day with little effort.

I've got a 28 Open that has been converted to a single. With all our gear and 120 gallons of fuel, I weighed it last Summer on an early morning trip. Boat came in at 5,900 Lbs and my Loadmaster trailer weighs 1,500 pounds. So whatever you are planning on pulling your boat with should probably be fine with 8600GVWR or less.

I towed this set up 2500 miles across the country with no problems. Truck is a 1/2 ton GMC C3 (6.0 engine). The trailer was really heavy and didn't have brakes! I have an aluminum trailer now and the weight savings is substantial.

I think, like Rebar said, about 6500# plus trailer (twin sbc's w/alphas). I will be weighing my soon.

That was in a little semi-ghost town called McLean, TX, about 60 miles east of Amarillo. I stopped there because I saw a sign for the Route 66 museum. The museum is also the Devil's Rope museum dedicated to barbed wire.

It was pretty cool. It was a b!tchin' little town and I had the most peacefull relaxed feeling while I was there. It was very quiet with no traffic or people walking around. There were several old abandoned buildings and gas stations. There was an "Andy Taylor" town police pick up with a young kid in the back parked at the side of the road. He waved and watched (I think in shock) as I slowly drove by. I think you could take a 2 hour nap in the middle of the road and no one would notice. If I ever go through there again I will stop and spend some time looking around more and trying to meet some residents. Must be interesting to see what hapened to the town.
