Really I don't know about that CUV 38',one of the two that raced in Usa I think.
According the Graham's library charts,in 1983 Davey Wilson raced in Ittios Inc. Picchiotti 38'.
Then in 1987 appeared a CUV 38' named Bandit for the son of John Antonelli,Nick. The same John raced with it in the Crouse's Searace Miami-Nassau-Miami and there was the Picchiotti 38' named Harley Davidson for a Wharton too.
I think can be a former Della Valle's boat, the only that went in Usa with a Cuv-Picchiotti 38' mono in 1981-83 and he can left there after the race.
Also Smania's Cuv 38' Marlboro and Cray Energy a Picchiotti Cuv 38' of Antonello Piras(the team where I worked for) went in Key West in 1981 but the boats came back in Italy after the World Championships.
In Key West 1981 went the new Picchiotti 38' of Cesare Fiorio(the owner Niccolai was prisoned for a bank crack) and Jack Stuteville, but also that Martini Racing came back in Italy after the races.

In 1982 there was a Sport Sutphen 30' Caliente of Dave Milani; only a coincidence?

I am pretty sure the boat in question is the Alitalia boat left over from the Key West world champion races 7XCHAMP

Hi Richie
The Alitalia CUV-Picchiotti 38' raced in Usa only one time,in 1977. One,Alitalia Uno n.19 for Cosentino and one Alitalia Due n.39 for Niccolai. But alls two come back in Italy.
If like I think that Caliente was the former first CUV 38' of Renato Della Valle,we can talk about Alitalia, because that was the Niccolai's boat.

the "Caliente" CUV seems to be the former Damiano Spelta "san benedetto", a yellow CUV raced in the 80's , because the side of cockpit (from windshield to engine compartment) is different from all other CUV.

When this Caliente was racing, Damiano was a little boy with Michey Mouse magazine in the hands.....
Maybe this Caliente was a new boat simply.
