The rudders were custom made at Latham Marine and featured the longest blind bore ever done at that time, outside of NASA. Bob Latham had to obtain upgraded computerized equipment to drill the pivot pin holes...( A very big deal back then). Finally the cockpit canopy was developed at TexStar (the people who make the F-16 canopies) exclusively for this boat at a cost of 100 grand or so. T2x |
T2x - i think its time for you to start a thread for us that would like to have a little hydrodynamics/tunnel boat design lesson.

Good job!
I remember when that cat came in Viareggio. I hoped could be as the Jesse James, but when I saw it in water it was so different instead from it. Less weapon. I don't know if it were guilt of the greatest length, of the Lambos or of Fruitier, but that cat didn't go so fast. It find difficult to take the glide. I remained disappointed. |

The late Grand Prix driver, Didier Pironi, acted as sort of an "agent/manager" for the project and it took various twists and turns as he wheeled and dealed. At one point he was negotiating to build a boat out of carbon fiber, before this one was completed. It was very confusing to all involved. I am thrilled that it has been restored and it looks great.... Nice job on a truly unique Euro/American collaboration. T2x |

This isn't something that will be out in the public domain......and it always amazes me that people ask for proprietary information. If we went to all the trouble of building reverse angles subtly into each of the Conquests to prevent "popping"......why in the world would we give out the plans?????? T2x |
Because you are a nice guy?

We built that one for Dominick Palumbi and it was originally christened "What-A-Package". Later it raced out of Florida and won a regional high points Championship as "Panama Jack". Since then it has been renamed for a pair of twins, a pizza company, and some other incarnations.
It was somewhat heavy, and not as fast as the later "Captain America" we built (see below). It also did not have particularly attractive styling.... but it has lasted , it seems, forever..... By the way the entire boat is wood fibreglass composite...not just the bottom. T2x The boat was a great time for Terry Hill and I, and we had a fun time racing her those years! Ken Adams and Rich Luhrs along with George Linder were involved with Conquest at the time. JC |

It has been a while but this web site has amazed me again......T2k thanks for all the great reading.....Those boats were way ahead of their time......Nobody appreciates the heart and the passion that went into boats back in the day.......Now it's just how fast can i go and how much is it going to cost.........
Thanks again mike bacha |

Well guys its been quite a while since i've been On OSO. Wow I've been missing out on some really good Reading material. And eye candy for the boat lover.
T2X hope everyone is doing well. Please send my regards to George during your next visit. The old man is still Doing well and is as aunry as ever. He is still kicking around good wood-Shavings that is. I missed gettting a good look at at a wing while I was in Kankakee at the Nationals. I've seen a few pics of yours Looks like fun. There were several nice vintage opc rides on display there. Old wood Gotta love it... And by the way Bravo on the following wisdom. I may be part of a much younger generation but have thought those very words myself many a day. Describes the boat biz as a whole pretty much right now. "who would buy it?....for what purpose?......and using what powerplants in today's fuel silly situation? With insurance and liability issues, rising fuel costs, declining credit markets, and a spoiled "instant gratification" generation of customers who made too much, too fast and insist on surrounding themselves with sycophants and hangers on, what's the point? Where are the real boat racers?" Ragards Ken Adams Jr www.questracing.com |

You guys were the only ones to figure out how to build a wooden cat that would stay together in rough water, and still be fast. It is a shame that you came into the game so late. Had you started at day one, your name would be up in lights. I've always been a big fan of Adams, Linder and that other guy...........

The 35' Jesse weighed in at 9350 lbs race ready, after the canopies were installed as well as driver cooling and such. I remember weighing her just outside of Lake X in Fl.
