I think OPA is open to the idea of a small boat class. It was offered before and could be again.Call OPA and let them know you want to race. Then register and SHOW UP.

innerrage 07-02-2011 09:52 PM

i tried last year and smitty said my boat is to small, only 21 ft and a smallblock witha 290 volvo drive, some day before i die i would love to race p5 or 6 or just to help out in the pits with a team hopefully someday,

Your correct. I was only thinking 30'.
I owned one a pleasure model, it was a great boat. TRS drives.
Throttled Gazpacho for a year in 1978.
After climbing out of a 28 Cig race boat into a 30 Mirage I became fearless.
Much more boat under you.

they guy who owned maverek moved to traverse city and started building boats. In fact I saw one at the Duseldorf Boat Show. He had a bad accident with his old 8 meter on lake st clair and a person died.

We use to call the BZ-II the Needle when we where young.

Bob I stand coerected, Lee sent me some new CC pic's there were two metal flake Chris Crafts out of Lake St Clairs Blue Lagon, I thought there was, but it has been some time ago. Plus Baums white Maverick were all here on the lake. P-700 was CC Rider, P-800 was ORANGE JULIUS. Last year one was for sale here that was white, it might have been a repainted CC Rider ?????

Lee 02-08-2012 12:34 PM

Mark,
The guy who bought my Sutphen sent me those pictures, I wish that the owner of the white 8m wouldn't of flaked out or there would of been another one on the lake here.

Donzi Doral [P-300 HEAT WAVE]

10 Attachment(s)
I just finished the [do not break the bank] restoration on my 1974 Donzi Doral. In the 38 years since this Donzi was built it has gone through many changes. From it's beginning as most likely the cover boat on the Donzi catalog, to a APBA P class race boat, than back to a pleasure boat.
About 4 years ago I saw this Donzi on cragslist Detroit for sale & thought it would make a good parts boat for one of my Magnum restorations, but I lost track of it. I found it for sale again a year later, it was covered in snow and in ruff shape and it was home to a family of chipmunks, but I had to have it. After getting her home I found it was the old P-300 HEAT WAVE defiantly a boat worth keeping. After taking her apart I found the transom was shot no real surprizes on a 30++ year old hull. Using ebay & craigslist I found all the parts I needed to put her back together. I even found a pair of 350cu 300hp Crusader engines on one of the forums. I was able to clean up the original interior, not perfect but very useable. Doing the work myself would be the only practical way to do this so it took longer than I thought but it's finally done .
I had it out over the holiday weekend and it runs really good for a 24' boat that's gone through many changes.

Thanks Bud.. When I did this restoration I did to be nice, not to be a 10 like your Maltese. From 10 feet back it looks really good. I plan to use this Donzi as a back up for my Magnum Sport, or when I need a boat with a bigger cockpit than the Magnum .

Man that thing looks a lot like a 1970 Manza 19' I just finished. Just bigger.

I was looking through my latest Boating magazine & I came upon a add for new wood Hacker Craft speedboats. After reading through the add I see that back in the day offshore racer [Mr Sheer Terror] Bobby Sheer is now selling the wood Hacker Craft boats in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I guess I'm getting old as these new wood boats sure look cool & with today's power must really run nice.

Mr Bills Cig

Now that the Bertram Baron was found & is back with the Miller family I'm on the hunt for this Cig. This Cigarette belonged to Mr Bill [redaleart] back in the day out on the east coast. From the looks of the pic's it may be one of a kind. Has anyone seen it ?????

scippy 12-02-2013 11:18 AM

Where was it last seen..........I'll be on the look out here in Jersey!

lightning jet 12-02-2013 07:23 PM

It has a short looking deck ? for a cig

fastdonzi 12-02-2013 07:55 PM

Is that a 44 deck on a 38 hull??

Now that I looked at the Pic larger it could be just the Low Profile windshield making it look funky. Cockpit seems proper.

cig28 12-02-2013 08:15 PM

Could it be a squadron with a cigarette sticker ?

Hi Jim, I believe Bill said it was a 1979 Cig so that would be to early for a Squadron. This Cig has a different look with that teak wood on that long engine hatch & a Vee windshield.. I don't think Bill wants it back just was wondering if it was still around.

olredalert 12-03-2013 09:01 AM

----It was a V-windshield Mistress. Original owner was a rich guy in or near Atlantic City (or so I was told). Had something to do with gambling. I traded it for an almost new GMC dually in 1990 as I was going back drag racing and needed a tow vehicle. Boat ended up in Cleveland area at that point. Dont know who bought it as there was a broker of sorts.
----Boat had 4 tanks and was set up as sort of a gentlemans racer as it had crash boxes, and dual controls, etc., yet had a very complete teak package. Raised hatch area was for the original fuel-injected 540s. Those were gone and replaced by twin 454s when I traded a 65 Corvette for it in 1987 on Cape Cod. Boat was titled as a 1979 and I was told by the broker after I sold it that the hull was Kevlar, but cant verify that. Broker also said the boat was later painted black, but I cant verify that either. Fun boat but was only good for about 55 with the 454s, and I couldnt afford anything bigger.
----Thanks for posting the pics, Mark!......Bill S
