Found these news paper pictures in my box of stuff from the June 1983 Detroit River Race. The race was 178 miles for open class & over 100+ miles for Sport, Modified, Production classes. Sadly this would be the last time we could race through the Bellisle bridge & on the upper Detroit river. The first pic is Home town Detroit racers Bob & Rob K in the 33' Active M-588 COUGAR, running next two them, the Shadow cat LOVE IT.:drink: In the second picture BIG Bob K was perfecting his wave to the spectators, while Rob [ironhead] sinks lower in his bolster. Next to COUGAR is Butch Ryan's 37' Active cat EXPRESS. :ernaehrung004:

heck im counting the people on the belle isle bridge i dont think theres that many people living in the city anymore and big bob still loves to wave at ANYBODY and i no longer have to sink down gravity is dooin it for me

When I was at the 2010 Key West worlds I saw this 32' Active cat in the dry pits that was racing in the P-2 class. What a surprize, it was the old BLUE MAX  Active cat from Lake St Clair. I believe it was hull #2 as the [M-588 COUGAR,, M-17 MOTOR CITY MAGIC] was hull #1, all built around 1981, 1982 in Algonac Mi. With the ad on beaks removed & new paint & rigging she looked very good for 28 years old, better than she did in the later days as Blue Max. :drink::drink:

Spoke with them in Key West. For a $13,000 race boat with a pair of 468 naturally aspirated BBC's it actually runs pretty good. They were racing some old 4 blade Merc propellers and Arneson 1600's.. Total Old School

THanks for the update! Always good to know where they are now!
