Close enough. Funny story about that boat. Sammy James built a garage that was too short for the boat by a few inches, so they shortened the boat, further enhancing the rocketlike symmetry of the hull............

That explains it.......... It was by far the ugliest Cougar.... which is saying something since many of them were quite beautiful......... When they put that awful dome on it later........ it became a true beast.

Gentry had four Cougars, two class 1 and two superboats.
CLASS 1 - The 1st was the 41' aluminium centre cockpit, this boat had a pollished finish (must have been a fecker when the sun was out), the 2nd was the old Limit Up/Toleman treewood boat with the sponson cockpits.
SUPERBOATS - The 1st was the 46' aluminium centre cockpit, the 2nd was the 50' treewood boat with the sponson cockpits that he purchased from Howard Arneson
I think that the class 1 alloy boat was at some time fitted with triple small blocks, Brownie do you remember this happening!

Brownie,do you speak of Cougar stretched to 50', but how much was it long before? Was it always of Gentry?

CougarM, in your list of cats Cougar of Gentry is absent the first one; the Michelob Light ex Garcia always in wood in the 1982.

It was a 46' with 4 engines on two drives, quad gauges, lots of new stuff. Never was competitive.

Didn't it win first overall at Marathon one year?.... when it was first outfitted with the stupid dome? As I recall that was when Gentry finally figured out how to make his gazillion horsepower, turbo charged engines finally last for a couple of hours.

Was the Arneson wooden superboat not 48'?

At the time it was one of the most beautiful boats anyone had ever seen. The bottom was finished in clear varnish and showed the wood grain.
