As regards Maltese and other Med names, they were meaningless as far as I know. In the early days, we made national flags for the Donzi boats, and some of the Magnums. Malta and Corsica editions were the best looking.

Additionally the Dreadnaught was redesigned by Barcone Marine into a center open sportfiserman with a tuna tower by Pipewelders. The forward stowage space was converted into a fine forward cabin with basic requirements for overnighters if one wished. The boat was repowered with twin 427 cu in Crusaders @ 350 hp and continued to be a top performer.

I also thank you for sharing of memory.
The history of the name of a boat is one of the things that fascinates me most.
We have no other information besides the 1967 Bahamas 500 for Dreadnought .
Have you no more compete again with that boat?
Know if he is still alive today?
The boat had sides colored black and what color was the 'ribbon' that surrounded the boat fwd the cockpit?

I understand Brownie.
Maybe Malta as Corsica to Don reminded his first tour in the Mediterranean in 1965 and perhaps those names opened more doors of the European market for its boats.

Magnum Name

Here`s one to wrestle with Marco.

1968 - Magnum 26 - 3 x Mercury (375hp) -Driver - D.Shaw.

Boat Name - WOOLY BOOGER

A 26ft Magnum? It`s enough to hijack this thread!

I`ll clear off now.

Where did you get the number [1227] ? If you look inside the dash and it says 12 wrote in black marker then it would be hull #12. Hull # 12 went to J Katz back in 1968. The hull numbers did not go on the transom till around 1972. What color is your sport, purple & white ?

My 1973 Sport didn't have transom numbers, it was written with black marker inside the dash. So the transom numbers started some time in 73 or 74?
My Sport was purple and white.

Thank you
Jim

Jim,

If you recall, can you share precisely where under the dash your hull number was written? The same style of hull ID was done by Donzi, and on Donzi.net we've found that all old boats are numbered in the same place.

My 1968 was repainted, everywhere except below deck, and this includes the area under the dash and where the instruments are. Fortunately the wiring was removed prior to all of this . . I'd like to clean off the paint and hopefully find a hull ID.

TIA!!!

1227 was on the title. Not sure where the number came from. The boat was originally light blue gel coat, painted several times the last being maroon. We stripped it back to gel and painted it white.

The hull number would be in the dash pod? I'll have to take a look.

Mine was written inside of the the dash module. don't remember if it was the front surface or the surface against the cabin balkhead.
I think it was on the front surface,, but not sure

Thank you

My 73 Sedan was built 5-31-1973 that has transom hull #, and it's under the dash.
