Phil when you started filming offshore racing?
Do you have tapes of those early years?

Hello Marco - First race was the Swift Huricane Classic in St. Pete Florida - where Michelob light spun out while I was filming it - It was filmed on Super 8 Sound film - and converted to tape - by 1980 we had switched to 3/4 Umatic Tape - and in 1986 we filmed in Broadcast quality Cameras - and by 1988 - Beta SP and mastered to 1 inch tape. -

First overseas event was the World Championships in Mar Del Plata, Argentina in 1979. Our success was do to a combination of talents - great Pilots - the Best narration ever and narrated live as the race happened - Only special Tapes were also over dubbed at times. I was just the manager - supplying a need- and had so many loyal clients that made it all possible -

Most of the events from 1978 - 1979 have been lost or destroyed, only what was later converted to tape - - BIG SEAS - with Darren Luhrs and T2X - have the library -

A special thanks to Walter Ragazzi - who helped me film for IOTA - in Europe - (in their PAL format too) - in 1992.

All the best Marco !

Hello Phil

How long did Walt M. pilot for you?
I worked with Walt for many years at InterData in Oceanport NJ. At work he was so mild and laid back,, but heard he was pretty good pilot.

Thank you
Jim

I know those videos but you had spoken of the Hennessy Grand Prix of 1972 and so I thought you might have something of those years ...

Walt was one of the best - I met him when He was on a refresher course at Raco Helicopters - He would fly - "under a hood" to practice his instrument rating - a great guy - fun to be with - always a smile - a famous quote from him while flying - was - "Where to Boss" - haha ! as everyone aboard had their own ideas of where we should go -! Walt was cool under pressure - and just a nice guy to work with.
