Michelob Light

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Here is the Michelob light Advert from Lake St. Clair.
It Features Bernie Little's Scarab and Pete Smith's Active cat "Wolverine".

H20 Boater can fill you in on the details as he was there.
I'm guessing Ironhead was there too.

That was when Betty Cook was sponsored by Bernie....so that is her Scarab, not Joey Ipolittos. Notice the World Champion written on the windscreen, Joey was never a WC.

Great video, thanks

Is that the same boat that Ratman was restoring a few years back?

northernoffshore 11-24-2011 04:14 PM

Yes and he didn't get very far with his restorations on it. Was redone by thunder marine and design in ft. myers . They raced for a year or so ,in2008 2009. In very nice shape and for sale . Would make a good classic poker run boat.

Looks great. I remember talk of someone making it into a center console, bow rider or something stupid like that. Glad it was restored the way it deserved.

Thanks Charlie. Was this the same weekend They finished on one engine?

After H20 is done stuffing his pie hole with turkey and whatever else Michigan people eat on Thanksgiving, he can give us the details.

Being a diehard Mich Light drinker for 28 years ago until i switched to Miller 64s it is great to see the old Mich boat was properly saved and restored.

Thank you to the folks who let the legend live on by completing the restoration of it.

Betty Cook & Pete Smith [Wolverien] were friends. When Pete was having his pleasure 32' Active cat built Betty dropped off a pair of KAAMA engines & drives for him to install. :drink:
At that 1981 Detroit race Wolverine would be DQ ed from 1st place for missing a check point and Betty would become the winner.

ironhead 11-25-2011 06:30 PM

and for all you youngsters the house in the black river where ron held the mich. skater-fest, that boat house housed the deep vee boat in the comercial back in the day Betty brought a deep v and a cat to run the detroit race the deep v hung in rons boat house if it was too rough Betty would use it , she used the old wooden cougar that later became quams "flap jack" another unusual and useless fact but at 16 years old it was cool to be there

bobo1 11-25-2011 09:26 PM

Is Mich. Light the old Kaama?

AB From Windsor 11-25-2011 09:56 PM

another Natural Light...sorry michelobe guys... I love this picture....highest jump I've ever seen.... Joey behind Betty... sorry if it's the wrong hull :)

It looks like that video was shot at the Detroit Yacht Club.
The Belle Isle bridge in the background.

vbskidoo 12-30-2011 11:46 AM

The Wolverine was driven by Lee Bomar for that commercial and he was PO'd he had to pull the throttles back to let the Mich
boat "win".

It was filmed near the Grosse Point Yacht Club. Close for the boats that homed at Emerald City Marina.

Soon after that, the Wolverine was painted up as Budweiser Light. Then it was decided tha Budweiser was too long a name and the the beer was then called Bud light.

That was back when we flew them, Joey Ippolito, Bobby Beich and me on sticks, Joeys first race, Miami up and down the coast and accross to Bimini. Joey forgot to trim his toe nails, and drove all his nails into his toes, bloody mess not to mention the pain.

Isn't that boat a 35 Cigarette in the picture?

I did the same thing racing the old Hogs Breath Boat in Ft Myers during hurricane/Tropical storm Allison, 5-7' waves, Really fun times :) I Planted my feet up against the bulkhead for support and didn't realize it was buckeling my toes in my shoes, My two big toe nails turned black & blue and I had no clue cause that wasn't even on my mind :)

Happy New Year Gene: You taught me how to do it, you were the best on the trim and sticks, I am beholding to you for my success. Amazing how high and how far we could fly boats at 70 to 90 mph back then, I think it was called ocean racing, and there were actual waves for 200 miles A LOT OF WAVES and a lot of air time and stick work. Guess that was then.
