Anyone remember Styskal from Lakewood Oh. who owned Truckin Vantastic? I believe he had a couple raceboats back in the day racing GLOPRA.

Here you go a pic of the Buzzard & a GLOPRA sticker.
I'm looking into making a few GLOPRA stickers for my Magnum, i will see what it cost. :ernaehrung004:

I think there was a black boat. It had the Cleveland WMMS Buzzard on it. I thought the owner came off a wave and hit his head and passed or was hurt bad.
The stickers would look good on the Rascal wind screen when paint is complete.

A few people have been Emailing me on the progress of the Rascal. I started the restoration 8 month's ago. Gathering parts, cleaning and planning the power. Here are a few pictures. Happy New Years!

Here are some photos from my old collection. I helped do Race Patrol a few times and worked with Bruce Carter at Baja Marine. He raced with Chuck Kimberline in Pacifier.

Looks like first photo is Rascal.

I think that was the Cleveland race. I raced my CheckMate in that race. The second picture to the end is a picture I have been looking for. The 24 Baja behind D Manta was a couple of crazy teenagers like myself back then from Buffalo. That Baja ran good.

I got your PM and decal will be sent out tomorrow.

When I took the Baja photo I too was amazed at watching the little 24 foot Sport running with the big dogs. The 240 Sport was the first smaller Baja to have a 24 degree bottom design from scratch. It was stretched and modified many times to create many other Baja models like the 250 Sport, 270, Shooter/272, 252's, 25 Outlaw, and 275. All of them ran well. The red boat in the same photo was a twin OB rigged 240 Sport, but Baja was not real good at setting them up at the time or something. (Not many of them were ever sold) The 25 and 28 Checkmate models were also good running models, but even though I graduated High School with Kip Combs I ended up working for Baja.

Most of the photos are in Cleveland, but some are Sandusky Bay. Bruce Carter always told me how special Rascal was designed and was the boat to beat back then.

XT,
I remember the Baja campaigned a 28-30ish' V with dual OBs (Mariners) in the GLOPBRA sportmen B class....probably early to mid 80s. Might have been called "Magnum" if I remember correct? Do you remember that boat?

TENSION 01-03-2013 02:25 PM

That was a "Force 320", with 2 Mariner Magnum outboards. It ran in the "V" class in 1982-83. Was called "Magnum Force", owned by Dan Jenkins, from Huron.

Some what, but I was good friends with John & Carla Sauselen when John worked for Baja. They raced a 28' hull with a modified 320 deck on it with twin OB's. Later it was converted to IO's.

Dave, I recieved the GLOPRA Sticker today. Your a Class Act. A person that would take time away from their business and family during the Holidays to send me part of the history of my restoration is a Big Asset to our sport not to mention donating your time in the day as a patrol boat. I also looked into your craftmanship and you will have my business.
Thanks Dave

Thanks, Tension. That is the boat I was thinking of....

What ever happened to the "Copper Kettle" boat?

Back in 1986 we took the Motor City MAGIC Image cat to the McGarvey's Vermilion race. That was one great day winning first overall in the main race & even winning the powder puff later that day. Ironhead [Rob K] then girl friend [now wife] Cindy won driving our cat while not being able to see over the dash, I steered it from the navigator seat. I believe that was the last powder puff GLORPA ran as other teams rented Skater cats for there wives race. :party-smiley-004: I heard the WILD Cat Skater spun out twice almost causing a major cluster trying to catch us. After that they retired that trophy as the speeds were becoming to fast for that fun race.
In the first pic of us running you see Cindy in the middle not tall enuff to look over the dash. Here is a pic of Cindy readying for the big race, & my old Magnum CEMICAL REACTION heading out to race with it's new crew. :ernaehrung004:

i ran with john in 84 out in ca. In a 30' v that a customer let baja enter in the golden gate to spruce goose chase ending at the queen mary in long beach. It was strickly a pleasure boat we tried to set for up for a race in 2 days. There were boats there with betty, conners, dick genth, reggie, humberto picon. All the shooters . We were winning the race and the sponcers had asked us to take some hollywood hero in the boat with us. Well the star fell down and got hurt. John wanted to throw him overboard and let the chopper pick him up. Well anyway we got going again and finished second.

MrCIG 01-05-2013 10:20 AM

Rainbow Chaser is still in Chicago. 20 Years ago a friend of mine let me use it on my Honeymoon. Took it the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Made stops in Holland, Saugautuk, Muskegon. That's it my buddy's brother driving it in the Picture. He also raced a 32 Skater with twin Johnson's called HOT back in the day.

Mariah, There is a boat I forgot about that was one of my favorites. Thanks for prying that one out of my head! We need some pictures of: Sorcerer (The old Rascal) TrashCan/Golden Eagle (Bob T.) Showdown (Bill M,'s' 32 Skater with Awsome 2.5's in my opinion one of the most winning and hard running boats.)

Let the pictures go GLOPRA member's we are not getting any younger!

Andy that is your mom on the boat. :drink: Had lunch today with Big Wave Dave he thought is was a Pantera. Is this Mariah a GLOPRA boat ? And did it become BLADE RUNNER ?

CIG3 01-07-2013 09:53 AM

Mariah was originally Putt-Putt before they bought the 34 Coyote. I think it went to FLA after zieger sold it and was found shot up and half sunk years ago.

Blade Runner was Gold Rush from Erie, PA not sure what it was before that, maybe Ambusher. By the way that is Mom in navigator seat in the photo of Blade Runner.
