Hawk racing team
I saw a lot of boats in the 80's carry this on their boats. (For example Jesse James)
What was hawk racing team? |
Boats powered by Hawk Marine engines?
|
I thought about that and that could be the case for the Jesse James modified boat, but the open boat used mercruiser engines and drives.

Thank you sir. Its still sitting on the original trailer lol. The dash has been painted and gauges updated but other than that its still in original trim from 1987. Spent the majority of its life in an airplane hanger. Only 240 hours on the ticker

Just looking at the Cigarette Hawk it has the right amount everything going for it.......nothing too overstated or understated.......it just works today as it did 27 years ago.

Hawk Racing Engines was owned at times by Craig Barrie and at one point I think Jerry Jacoby. When Craig ran Cigarette, you could order with Mercruiser power or Hawk power. A lot of the race boats at the time, AJAC Hawk (a play on Jerry's initials) and later Cigarette Hawk had Hawk power. A lot of pleasure Cigarettes had Hawk power, including a 1986 35 Cig with a race fairing, 600 hawks and #3SSM's my buddy Gary Brightwell ordered new. Hawk had a lot of lot of talented people, like their drive guru John Klumpjian, who worked for Doller Marine for many years.

Keith Hazell throttled for Jerry as well

Close, but.....Jerry Jacoby owned a successful transmission parts company in NY called AJAC. The initials were a take off of his wife Arlene's name with the Jacoby, not Jerry's. He raced a series of boats first named JJ's Joint and then AJAC Hawk. He was the one who talked Aronow into blocking the 39 foot by 8 foot wide mold down to 37.6 feet. They took a deck from the old 36 race deck mold and cut it narrower and lengthened it and that boat eventually became known as the Cigarette Top Gun. At some point in the 80's Craig came along with the Brut sponsorship and became a member of the riding crew on the race boat. The engine shop, was always Jerry's from the beginning.

hope none of you guys take offense to this but being i was 7 years old when my boat was made, reading stories from the "old timers" (maybe "veterans of the sport" is a better choice of words) on here is the best part of OSO in my opinion!! Keep em coming guys!!
|
I remember seeing the Hawk 1000's at the New York Boat show. Sonny's engine's with Hogan tunnel rams and Holley Dominators, huge inches! Trying to recall the powerboat they were in? Maybe a 42 Cigarette race boat with 5's? All white with the Hawk emblem.

A veritable fountain of misinformation.......

Lol brownie can you fill us in? I've read the story and spoke with bud, but don't remember exact details

I thought Craig Barrie owned Hawk Racing,The Engine shop on 17th ave next to C&G. Richie Powers worked there. then Craig somehow ended up owning Cigarette. Which would explain the affiliation between the two. I recall the Fabrege' Brand being one of the Berrie's family buisness (I read that somewhere) No?? Maybe??

One of the nicest Cigarette Hawks is located in Holland Mi. It is a 38SE (before the Top Guns) that is painted like 88 Bullet's but is red and gold with a gold Hawk. It is a two owner boat that is pretty much all original. One of the most beautiful and bad a$$ boats ever, truly a ruff water beast.

As far as I know the boat has always been called Fox Hunter I heard it was a Tender Boat for a yacht for a gentleman who bred Hunting dogs.

Got any pics of it? And just out of curiosity does it say cigarette hawk on the side like mine? Reason I ask is I found a older thread in the cig section by a guy trying to figure out how many were painted with the "cigarette hawk" and could only find 2. Mine and a red one.

Some pictures of it, unfortunately small ones. whats the price tag on it?
|
He's asking for 69' € which is around 95' $
He writes the following about it: "Yes this classic Cigarette Top Gun 38 Hawk edition has all the options that year. It har NOT been parked in saltwater since new. I have only put it in water when I run it. After that I have washed it and had it parked on my trailer. The boat is sold new in Sweden. It was Raced in a two boat team with the Swedish king when it was new. I know the history of the boat since it was new. I think that it is hard to find a Classic Cigarette in this good shape anywhere! I want all off my boats in perfect shape and I should not have bought it if I did not know the whole story of the boat." |
I am digging the small swim platforms on it...

Remember it, it was listed here on OSO say 6 or maybe 7 years ago. some of the ad. pictures were taken in the hanger. fresh 572 power at the time #3's I think. that's a nice looking Top Gun you have there. my buddy has a 1989 Hawk. no notch bottom TG, but it only has the hawk decals on it. one on each side and one on the deck, no wording. #3s Hawk power then Cobra. Craig did the brokerage deal. I heard he was related to the Fabrege family too, thus the BRUT connection. Brownie --- ???

My boat came with Hawks. I am only the second owner, original owner had it for 20 years. Started with the 174 blowers? Then he went to 250 B&M.
I have since switched to something else. |

This one I can answer. Craig's father George who was a really cool guy, owned Faberge'. George kept a 38 Cig at Turnberry in the 80's, he also kept his yacht there, an 80' Hatteras "Toy George". Any guy in his 70's who runs his 38 Cig and has a small Disco on his yacht at Turnberry, just might be the 'most interesting man in the World'.
Barry, thanks for the information ! another ? are the Hawk hulls Kevlar, a mixture or ? |
Mine is Kevlar. My friends is carbon fiber
