I believe that Todd, "Mid-Ocean", has Armed and Dangerous for sale. It was near Charlotte, NC. There were several current condition photos posted by him, it looked very restorable.
|
A friend of mine said he saw it on the race coarse and it was awesome.

How fast was the 36ft with 502s trs drive set up?
|
My 36 best I've seen 69mph on gps with 502's and speedmaster 3's
|
How many 32s were made how did they ride?
|
Was Byng Goode Midnight Express better than the Cortes Mirage ? Ironically I think Pedro Medina at one time or another worked at both boat builders.
|
A few for you guys

Great Pics! Thank you for sharing.
|
Yes Thanks for sharing the pictures. My boat was Bob Latham s. I think he was throttling Evil ways at that time. He also throttled Magic Gems and Man O War.
|
I throttled M-44 that year.
That Mirage was built as Great Adventure .It speared a wave in the first race of the year in California & tore the deck off. That was the end of the GA Mirage for the team. |

Here is a Lake St Clair Mirage that upset many racing in the APBA P class back in 1976 the HAWK, as it had staggered Merc 280TRS engines. This is one more classic that has vanished.

Interested in this boat. Does anyone know what happened to it or if it sold?

The Mirage posted above was sold. Does anyone know if there are any 25 foot Cortes-built Mirages out there?

Right you are I forgot about this thread, if you red post # 4 they mentioned them. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...32-mirage.html |
I wonder how close in design my 29 Cary is to the Mirage. Mine measures 29'9". Is the Mirage exactly 29'?

Thanks for the info Thriller. Bottom probably same 24 degrees all the way to the transom.
|
Compare strake width at the transom between the Mirage and Cary.

So this tells us that the Mirage is most likely popped from a 28 Cig and the Cary is popped from a Magnum.
Cortez worked for Cigarette with Sonny and Bob at the time the 28 was built. They used a Magnum hull, added the second rub rail line and widened the strakes by a 1/2". Makes sense, Jeff |

Hey guys. Just discovered Mirage and found a couple in my price range. Wondering if anybody can tell me more about them.
Thanks. http://www.iboats.com/sites/northstar/site_page_11197/item_425864.html http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1977/Mirage-SS-1294674/Harsens-Island/MI/United-States#.WUvXR_cpDqB http://www.boatersresources.com/boat-for-sale/1977-Mirage-9-Meter-SS-Used-402684? |
1976 Mirage 9M SS
I just posted my 9M SS today on Ebay as item #332313642646
The engines are in good shape but will likely need a valve job in the near future. |
The original builder Cortes is my family on my mother’s side and if anyone is interested my brother and I have a mold of the mirage it was stretched to 32’ but can be damned and built to 29’-32’. We can build a custom boat using all composite materials. Let me know if interested |
