What is the fastest you ever ran in a 29' Mirage? Building my Cary 29 and they are very similar in size and design. Thanks

akronspeed 09-28-2015 07:00 AM

I will let you know, mine is setup with twin 454 Magnums and TRS drives

My red & white Mirage with small blocks & Trs drives ran around 70mph when I raced it in the APBA A class. My off white 29' Mirage ran in the mid 60's with the stock Trs 330 Big Blocks. Top Prop here on OSO has the Wolverine 29' Mirage with staggered Trs & Big Blocks & it runs in the upper 80's.

Cary 29 09-28-2015 05:45 PM

I'm putting 750s and arneson surface drives on my boat. Just curious. They seem to be good running boat s.

salty dog 09-29-2015 05:10 PM

The Cortes Mirage was built in Miami,Fla by Estanilao Cortes one of the best plug makers /marine carpenters back in the day he built a 25,29,32 and 36 footers. He is still alive today and his son is Jose Cortes was Pops57 on the board here. These boats were solid heavy boats built for offshore conditions. Hey Akronspeed post some pics of your project ! these boats are rare not a big production of them. Its amazing after all these years they have those classic lines in the water, a testament to the skill of Estanislao Cortes and Mirage.

Cary 29 09-29-2015 05:31 PM

What is the actual Loa of the Mirage 29.My Cary is 29'9". Should have been called a 30. But back then they didn't need to round up all the time. The hull is rare and only a few were made. Mine was titled in 1980 by Bob Latham and he told me they were taking the sign off the building as he drove away to become Black fin.

The Mirage has been a great boat! It runs great and big for a 29. However be aware, running over 85 it will chine walk.....it gets worst the longer you stay in it but is quick to settle down as soon as you get out of it.
I'd love to see the pictures of your project

It's my old red & white race Mirage. It was sitting on Ohio state route 2 by Sandusky @ a bump shop with new paint & transom.

h2oboater, this is what you boat looks like now. Sunset Bar on here owns it and is in the process of rigging it with 383s and bravos.

That boat is very nice. Love the tone on the White and the decor! When you say Off White - can we say it's Close to "Cream White"?
The reason I ask that detail is that we are buildning a new Activator canopy race and the hullsides are "Cream White" and the most crazy thing is that the decor will look pretty much the same :D

There is a nice 36 Mirage on Cleveland OH craigslist that could most likely be bought for 20k. Original black hull with 502s. I would jump on it if I had the space.

salty dog 10-13-2015 06:43 AM

theres a 29 in Houston for 10k that's rough but not many left that 36ft was in Lakeland fla in a a barn at one time

Just saw this tonight, NICE! I'm glade to see the progress on her as it sat off route 2 @ the shop without much activity, it will run great with a pair of 383's.

akronspeed 10-13-2015 07:40 PM

I may go look at the 36 on craigslist this weekend. The boat looks clean and the price is right. The owner told me it was from FL and is a 3 owner boat. Apparently its an original black Mirage which only a few were made.

justbassing 10-14-2015 08:53 AM

Hey you all just thought I'd say hi and yes I'm still alive been very busy just completed the adoption of our granddaughter so trying to find a new normal so with that said I took my mirage out for the 2nd run of the year last week and it ran great.

The guy post it on FB. I'm sure it can be bought for under $20k as the guys has NO!!!! idea what he has nor the history on these boats. He had post that the boat ran 90mph and i had to put him on his place and correct him. He was even asking what we thought was fair price to sell it at. Good luck.
