As far as boats go I dont think there will be a "classic" in 2030. Boats like your talking in the 80's and 90's were much more obtainable than they are today. Plus there were more manufactures of them that today. A 1985 38' Cigarette was in the $200,000 range which translates into $400,000 in today's dollars. A brand new 2015 Cigarette 38' is in the price range of $600,000. So I'm not sure about you but I don't have $600,000 lying around to buy a boat. Also factor in that there are no cool shows on TV right now that feature boats. I think for something to be a classic there needs to be a bunch of people that Ooooo and Ahhhh over it and most of the mindless people watching TV just want to see who the next singing sensation is or see who got voted off the island. Miami Vice was a perfect formula that fit the atmosphere of the country at that time. Hot women, Hot boats, plenty of excesses, plenty of drugs. Now we have people who are afraid of everything and want to be PC. Its just a different world now. |

I would say the ones that get saved, rebuilt, well kept and hold their value greatest will be the purpose built boats. (Poker run cats & Sit down v-bottoms) They have a certain look that never goes out of style, great weight to HP ratio to run faster on less power, and carry that same muscle/exotic car feel.
The sit down V-bottoms are a great example. Right now there are a bunch of Outerlimits GTXs, Cig Gladiators and Donzi ZRCs that are either being updated or have just completed being redone. These boats were limited to begin with, stand out, and right now only Outerlimits is making new sit down Vs. |
TV exposure, including races. IMHO the older longer courses may do better on the big screen. Obviously, the announcer is everything too,
I miss the Wide World of Sports and old ESPN 2. Who f*ked up those programs and channels ? |
