Hi Ian I only had it up to 55mph the day Bob bought up here on Lake St Clair, it when it hooked on me so I had enuff fun & never ran it again. After the boat was in Florida Bob redid the steering on the boat & it was much better but I dont think he ever ran WOT. Ralph who now owns it said runs Great but never gave me a top speed. I will find out or he may chim in here on OSO. That snow storm went south of Michigan so we got 0 inches, that was good in my book..

for instance mine is build # 341 ......so yours would have to be relatively close to my 341 give or take how many Magnum built that year.......I'd say give or take 10 or so from my # 341

It looks like the DPX-A has a shorter X dimension. The cav plate looked to be in about thesame location as yours with the lower cutout. Reading the thread he mentioned that the drive was 2" shorter, and he did not raise the engines centerline.

Here is some very interesting measurements. I have three Volvo lower units in my shop. The Volvo Speedmaster E lower, the Volvo dual prop lower, and the stock 270 lower. I put a straight edge across the mating surface and measured down to the center profile of the prop shafts. The Speedmaster E 10 3/4in. The duel prop 12 1/2in. Stock 270 11 1/2in. Interesting and many ways to look at it.

Could you measure the prop shaft centerline to hull bottom on the Cig with the standard 270 lower?
It would be interesting to know if Cig and Magnum installed them at the same height. Magnum put them at 7".

That will be a couple months as I am refinishing the 270 uppers with the dual prop and Speedmaster E lowers. If someone is interested I have two nice 270 stock lowers available.

On the link that Jeff posted about Forrest's Magnum he said this. [Anyway, long story short the E2 props got me in the 4700 RPM and last and into low to mid 70's.] Hate to rain on the DP parade but it might be a stretch for Forrest's Mag to run the speed he claims, mid 60's are more like it. The only race boats that I ever saw run these drives were the Bat boats racing in our Silver Cup Series, as they had a spec class for them. Today the Bat boats are mostly back to running Merc Bravo drives. I spent a week at the Old Mercury Lake X in 1991 when they were testing experimental Black Hawk drive. On the boats they were testing most ran better & faster with the stock Bravo drive. After I talked to both owners yesterday about their Magnum with the Volvo DP drives they loved them for cruising 35 to 45mph, but in calm waters they got a little scary at 60 pulse. Bob & Ralph's Maltese will run 65mph with it's 383 storker engines but as they both said only do it in choppy waters...

Could you measure from one of the lower bolt holes to the boat bottom? Also, could you measure the drive centers? Thanks.

Mark,
